9-1/2" Brass Coin Probe

Great probe! Works exactly as it should. I have only scratched one coin of the dozens I have found so far with the probe and that's because I was really digging at it trying to learn the difference in the feel between coins (smooth) and rocks (rough). As for comments that it bends... Um... Yeah, of course it does! You're using it wrong. The brass probe is soft, it's supposed to be soft so it won't scratch the coin. That's why you also carry a steel screwdriver to pry the coin out of the ground once you locate it with the soft brass probe. Full disclosure: I was hesitant to use it at first, thinking that poking at and finding a coin in the ground was some sort of voodoo. Didn't really believe I'd be able to do it. The probe sat in my bag for a week before I finally pulled it out to see if I could poke and feel a coin under the dirt. 20 minutes later I took the little shovel out of my bag because I didn't need it anymore. Watch a couple of YouTubes on how to pop coins with a probe and screwdriver, try it out, don't be so hard on yourself at first and you'll be surprised at how quickly you will pick it up! It's SO much faster than digging!!

I haven’t officially used the tool yet but I can only imagine that it would be great in finding coins from what I’ve seen on YouTube. I have tested it however on a quarter and can see that like they say — brass is softer than silver. If you want any constructive criticism it would be in the packaging: The rubber washers don’t really hold it in place that well. It would be nice to have a sheath to protect the point. Now I have to find something to protect the point when I transport it to the digging site.

Picked up this 9.25-inch brass probe for coin hunting. The grip feels solid and the brass tip slides through grass plugs without scratching finds. Downside: the shaft bends with little force. First time I hit a root it curved like a straw. I bent it back but it now has a slight wobble. For loose soil or sand it still works fine and the bright handle makes it hard to lose. Just skip it if you dig in rocky clay. At this price it does the job, you just need a light touch.

Nice brass coin probe that I use primarily at the beach or in sand. I prefer not to use this when digging in dirt, instead only using a pinpointer for fear of damaging valuable coins. In the sand, I can be careful and don't have to aggressively probe as in heavy dirt or clay. Very pleased with the purchase for my needs. Recommended

I have broke to many small finds by hitting them with my shovel and breaking them in half, so I got this probe to dig around without having to worry about hitting valuable pieces and breaking them. Kinda makes you hang your head when you pull a tootsie car out of the ground that’s been there for a few decades only to find multiple pieces because you hit it with you shovel.

For any person who is starting out metal detecting this is a good product. Some finds will require you to use this item so when your poking around at it the metal on this probe will help you not break or scratch it in case it is a valuable find. Great product for the money spent!
