Buffed Up
I've been toying with turning for a few years now, and have always been a little disappointed with the quality of my final finish. The Beall system has enabled me to up my game. The picture shows a shop made skew chisel with a custom turned hickory handle. I was able to use the three stepped Beall system to put a wonderful sheen on the handle which was finished using two applications of tung oil and topped with a two coats of #1 lb clear shellac. I also used it to buff out a number of "stocking stuffer" tree ornaments and was pleased with the results.I mounted the system on my Jet 48" lathe. The kit did not include a morse taper. I did not pay close enough attention to the product specs, though it would have been nice if the vendor description had specifically called out the need for the adapter to run the system on a lathe. Fortunately, I have a #2 taper on a Jacobs chuck that I was able to use with the Beall system, so I was granted instant gratification for my purchase and did not have to wait a whole extra day for amazon to deliver a new morse taper and mandrel before I could try it out.Follow the instructions to prime the new wheels and wear a mask. The wheels shed a fair amount of fiber on first use and if you are like me, you would prefer to not have bits of thread clotting up your lungs. I was originally intrigued by the three wheel mandrel for lathes where a single spindle holds all three wheels. Glad I didn't buy that system and went with single wheel instead. Changing wheels just takes a few seconds and a single wheel provides a lot more real estate and flexibility for buffing. Maybe production runs of small turned objects could make use of the three wheel mandrel, but I mostly make one-offs of somewhat larger pieces and don't find switching wheels to be a real burden given greater flexibility in approaching the wheel. In all, this was a missing aspect of my turning kit and I'm very glad to have added the capability. I'm looking forward to trying it with various finishes, but am already happy with results with shellac and tung oil.

So much better than I expected.
First and foremost, Hartville Tool was phenomenal to order from. The system was packaged correctly to arrive with out a scratch on the systems box inside. I had never heard of this company and now it is one of my few first go to's for my woodworking/carving needs. They have many items not readily found elsewhere and at great prices. The Beall Wood Buff System is so easy to set up and prepare to use. The buffing pads change out very easily and the instructions are clear and simple. I did my own little test to see what made a better finish, the Beall System or hand polishing. I usually sand up to 320 grit or finer and finish with Tung Oil followed by heated beeswax and hand buffing. It traditionally takes several coats and many man hours to get that perfect sheen. The Beall system gives an incredible finish in a fraction of time and effort. I was amazed at the quality of finish this system created. The final product is as good if not better than my traditional method. Additionally, the wax finish is not easily removed by body heat in post handling. I would whole heartedly recommend this product to wood workers, turners, or carvers who want a deep polished shine to their finishing.

The buffing system works great. I mounted the adapter on one end of a variable speed bench grinder and left the stone wheel on the other side for balance, running at the lowest speed (2,000 rpm). I used this to polish a wood airplane model I made for my grandson out of red oak. After rough shaping, I sanded with 220, then 320, then 400, making sure no scratches remained. My first project was done on the bare wood without any stain or oil. The tripoli brought out the color of the wood, and the white diamond started to give it a glass finish, with the wax the final touch. It looks shiny and clear, better than any poly or other varnish type finish, and it has a good feel to the wood. Quick and easy, once the project is sanded. It took maybe 10 minutes, including changing the wheels. I would highly recommend this for small, fine wood projects.

Produces professional high quality finish
This system works great. Easy to use and the instructions are easy to understand. I never really did any polishing before but my pieces look professionally finished now. I purchased a 1/3 hp 1725 rpm motor using the quick change adapter that came with the kit. Now when I am making something I cant wait to get to the point of polishing it. I wish the box it came in was just a little bigger because I like to store it back in the box when I'm not using it (space issue) and its hard to get all the stuff back in. All of the parts are made of high quality materials. I am VERY happy with this system.

Excellent Addition to My Woodturning Tools
The beall buffing system does exactly as it was described. Easy to use and really puts a smooth surface to my wood turnings and the shine is not too glossy. Every woodturner should give it a try.

Great finish!
This has been a game changer for finishing my wood turning projects. Installed easily on my slow speed grinder and wheel changes are a breeze. Just what I was looking for to get away from other finishes that can be more hit or miss. Cutting compounds and wax should last a good long time.

Quality Kit
This kit is really worth the every penny. I bought this kit years ago and it came with a full size bar of carnuba wax and although this bar of wax is much smaller I still think its great .I was going to go with the full 3 in 1 mandrel kit they have now but decided against it because the wheels could be too close for some projects and also I can change a wheel in 2 seconds and place the pads and mount in a small drawer.I did get the optional #2 morse taper for my mini Jet Lathe which is real nice and has a flat side for the allen wrench screws to be secure. If your doing some metals be sure and get some appropriate pads and compounds for this Beall mandrel, I use 8"..because it turns your pads black and just screws everything up and you have to wash them etc...
