The Adventures of Brer Rabbit and Friends

Wonderful stories from the past.
I remember my mother reading these stories to me just before naptime when I was a small child. I truly loved all of them. This, of course, was before everything became a race issue. That never entered our minds back then. So sad that the cancel culture would try and ruin something so innocent as a grandfatherly man telling his tales about his wildlife critters. I'm 70 years old now and I have bought this set of stories, one for each of my grandchildren to keep for their children and grandchildren. We loved Uncle Remus and his stories. People need to stop looking for something to destroy. These fables are priceless and bring back good memories of a simpler time.

Nice book
These are stories I remember from my children's childhood and I always thought they had great insight to doing things one or perhaps a better way. Got as a gift for my granddaughter. I realize that they may seem not PC considering the Black Lives Matter, but the stories are still invaluable to me.

Uncle Remus
Uncle Remus and I have been friends now for 64 years. He still come 'round just to talk or with a new story. Now I have 4 grandchildren (step actually but they only know me as Grandpa); first I started with the movie, Song of the South (the only reason I keep a VHS around; then I also got 2 DVDs), then I started telling them over the next 8 years (they are 9,7,5,4) that Remus stopped by and left this book just for them so they could see his critters. They still read it almost every month. Now I have the book from Amazon that has ALL the Remus stories from Joel Harris and now they ask for bedtime stories from the book. I wrote inside that book a note to them from Uncle Remus, of his love for them, his joy is seein' they luv his stories; and that as long as Grandpa is here he will visit time to time with new stories. And if'n you keep the stories and read them to your children Remus will come and visit you too. The only stories I tell my kids (except that time when ole Huckaberry and I made a swimming hole.

Not original stories but still good stories
I bought this book for grandchildren after we visited Splash mountain. Though the stories loose a little without the old language, that my mother used to read to use, it’s still a good story time read. We shouldn’t be dumbing down our kids.

Onomatopoeia, science, oral tradition, trickster folktales and more
I requested this book from the library because my homeschool co-op is doing a study of Georgia history, and I am teaching literature/writing to 7-8 year olds. I'm new to Georgia, so I had to do some research to figure out what "Georgia literature" to incorporate into my class--and I found this wonderful book. But this book is NOT just for Georgians. It's full of all sorts of great learning. You'll find plenty of onomatopoeia, you'll learn about animals and their habitats, you'll "hear" vernacular of the South and of African Americans, and of course the book is all about trickster folktales--which provides you with all sorts of opportunities to compare to Anansi and even Bugs Bunny. And while you're doing a comparison-contrast study, you can compare to Grimm's collection of tales and/or Aesop's collection of tales. But, frankly, this book is just well written and well-illustrated from cover to cover. It's fantastic. I'm ordering one for our house--it's one I MUST own.

Cute and Memorable
I got this book for my mom because I remember her reading me Brer Rabbit stories when I was a kid. She always loved the book, but unfortunately, her copy of the book disappeared, so I thought I would get this for her. The book is great, but it is rewritten so that young kids can better understand what is being said. (Brer Rabbit isn't known for his excellent English.) This will be great for my mom to read to young grand babies (when they arrive), but I think I will look for a copy of the original book for my mom (and for when the kids get old enough to really appreciate the book.) Long review short, great book, especially for young kids, but this version is not exactly what I was looking for.

Uncle Remus is always great!!
This is not my favorite collected tales of Brer Rabbit, but it is a nice book. The vernacular is easy to read. Maybe a little too easy. It loses some of the flavor of the tales of Uncle Remus because it's too modernized. The illustrations are good, but not terrific. My kids love Uncle Remus stories and we had read so many of the same ones over and over again. They wanted some that we didn't have. This book offered some so I added to our shelf.

Still goin' strong!
OK.....so here I am.......the author.....writing a review for MY book. My Brer Rabbit first came into the world eight years ago and I'm still very proud of him. Of all the stories for children that I've written, the Brer Rabbit stories are the best and my favorites. I get a special joy out of seeing so many children and adults get a kick out of hearing and reading Brer Rabbit's stories. I am a performing storyteller so I have the opportunity to share these stories often, out loud, entering Brer Rabbit's world and sharing with my audience what I see and feel. I become that rabbit, that fox, that bear, et al and I bring my audience right along with me. The stories in this book, especially when read aloud, with take you into Brer Rabbit's world where you are truly welcomed and the FUN is non-stop. ENJOY!

The Adventures of Brer Rabbit and Friends
` The Adventures of Brer Rabbit and Friends' is a short but attractive book of short stores that make excellent bed time stories for kids, or pleasant light hearted reading for the big kid in all of us. It has a wonderful map on the inside of Brer Rabbits world and the settings for the stories, before going on the stories themselves. This has ten wonderfully illustrated stories featuring Brer Rabbit and an assortment of other animals, as well as a section at the end about African stories (which these were based on) and another section about the various real life animals featured. Not only are the stories in this book fun and full of adventure, but this book is also educational as well without it being dry or off putting; therefore perfect for kids. If you enjoyed these stories as a child then this is a great way to introduce them to your own children and if you just want to relive happy memories then this is a great place for you to go as well.Feel free to check out my blog which can be found on my profile page.

Childhood memories
Much has changed in presentation since these wonderful stories were read to me from a small hardbacked blue book by my father nearly 55 years ago. The stories remain as I remember though perhaps in shortened form !
