THORNE Basic Prenatal, Includes Active Folate, Choline & Iron, 90 Capsules

The absolute best prenatal in my opinion! It’s pure ingredients. The only downside is.. it taste very bad, but hey I’d rather it taste bad and be pure lol! Just hold your nose when swallowing 😂💕

I took these prenatal vitamins throughout my entire pregnancy and had a great experience with them. One of the biggest benefits for me was that they never upset my stomach, even during the times when I was dealing with morning sickness. That alone made it much easier to stay consistent with taking them every day. The capsules were easy to swallow, and I appreciated that this formula includes well-researched forms of key nutrients like folate. The quality is what I've come to expect from Thorne, and I felt confident taking them throughout my pregnancy. Overall, these were an excellent prenatal vitamin for me. If you've had trouble finding a prenatal that's gentle on your stomach while still providing the nutrients you're looking for, these are definitely worth considering.

I started taking the Thorne Prenatal to help regulate my cycle. I stopped taking birth control about a year ago, and about 7 months later my cycles completely stopped and I went 3 months without a period. After starting this prenatal, my cycles immediately went back to normal. My skin is also the softest and smoothest it’s ever been, and I typically struggle with hormonal acne. The only downside is the flavor, but I take it with orange juice and it helps mask it. Will update if needed!

So I’m on my 7th bottle of this. I’ve been taking them off and on to help with the side effects of coming off of birth control. The majority of the time I was only taking two capsules instead of 3, and that was enough. I recently updated to three capsules because I wanted more iron, but then I started getting side effects from the prenatal. I think I’m not depleted anymore and it’s time to back off of them. But overall I give these a 4/5. This stuff is like rocket fuel and really helpful, but they smell really bad. I don’t know if I’d be able to take them pregnant because of the smell. Though I’ll continue to keep them in my rotation because the quality is great, as usual with Thorne products.

I am disgusted with this company’s customer service - I have been using Thorne for my last two pregnancies and today went to take my vitamins and stumbled on this capsule that had been torn, discolored and had a small hair coming out of it. I reached out to the company and they said it was still SAFE TO CONSUME - I’m sorry, what?! The capsule is broken and there’s a hair! I have responded to the company telling them their response does not suffice or make me feel any better about this situation. And they have yet to respond despite getting back to me within the hour of my original inquiry. Here’s the official response (sounds like a copy n paste from a damage waiver): “Many vitamins, minerals, and botanicals are naturally hygroscopic, which means they easily absorb moisture from the surrounding environment. Moisture can be introduced by putting the product into a damp hand, by inappropriately refrigerating the product, or simply by storing the product in a humid environment. Because Thorne does not use preservatives, additives, binders, or unnecessary fillers that might otherwise reduce color changes, color changes with Thorne products can be more apparent than with other products. The desiccant packet in the bottle helps to prevent moisture transfer, so we always recommend leaving the desiccant packet in the bottle until the product is used. If the desiccant packet is removed before the product is used, then a color change can occur. Although color changes can be disconcerting, or even unappealing, please be assured that a color change does not affect the product’s quality or its efficacy, so the product can be safely consumed.“

I’ve been taking these since I found out I was pregnant and have been through a few bottles. The iron has been very gentle on my stomach. Instead of taking the full 3-pill serving all at once, I take one capsule with each meal (breakfast, lunch, and dinner), and that’s worked really well for my stomach. These were great during my first trimester because I developed a strong aversion to the fake fruity flavor that gummy prenatals have. These capsules don’t really have a taste or aftertaste, and they never made me feel nauseous. They’re a pretty standard medium-sized capsule. In the photo I included a bobby pin for size reference. I’m not great at swallowing larger pills, but these have been manageable with plenty of water. I also like that they don’t start dissolving immediately, so if it takes a second to swallow them you don’t end up with a gross vitamin taste in your mouth. I also like that these are gluten free and use high-quality ingredients. These have kept me feeling great during my pregnancy!

***I am writing this review as someone who has taken this prenatal before and after getting pregnant because my review would be different for each experience if possible.*** My doctor had recommended this prenatal vitamin prior to pregnancy as a good everyday vitamin for women my age. I had zero concerns with it and took it for several months. I didn’t taste or smell them in any major capacity, felt totally fine after taking them (no tummy issues), and felt great the next day. 5 star review! HOWEVER, at about 6-7 weeks pregnant, I started struggling. My nose can smell things from a mile away and for some reason, the smell I sense from these little vitamins sends me into a spiral. I struggle to get past the smell and subsequent taste. I take them at night (as I always have, even pre-pregnancy) and I have to go to sleep immediately afterwards because my tummy will become upset quickly. I’ve had some issues with getting sick if I don’t sleep soon after taking. I really have to hype myself up to take these at night. With that being said, my review during pregnancy would be a 2 or 3 star. I think the ingredients are great and help, but boy does the smell make me want to run the opposite direction. Overall, I’ll stick with a 4 star review because I think my body changing has also changed how I perceive and react to things. Even vitamins.

I absolutely love Thorne's Basic Prenatal. I did a lot of research looking for a high-quality vitamin with folate instead of synthetic folic acid, and this one checked all the boxes. Best of all, it doesn’t make me nauseous like other prenatal vitamins have in the past. Highly recommend it to any pregnant or nursing moms!

The product is fine but don't bother ordering from iherb. They will cancel your order and only inform you of this 4-5 days later. It's better to order from another vendor.
