Weeds and What They Tell Us

This book is great for giving us the clues we need to know ...
The soil is communicating with us via the weeds and all we need to do is listen. This book is great for giving us the clues we need to know to know what's going on beneath the surface. It's a language that all gardeners should know. I'm so glad that I bought this book and now have this information. Thank you.

Must have companion for farmers, gardeners and viticulturists
This is an extremely informational book that is a must for any Gardner or farmer. My only complaint is that it lacks color photos which hinders the plant identification a bit. Fortunately, in 2016 I can just google the photos so it wasn't a big deal if you have the right resources... Being that you're reading this online right now, I assume u have the resources '

Interesting but very very dated
Using weeds to detect problems in the soil is a technique often used in permaculture. This book, written in the 1950’s, predates the permaculture movement and it shows. A lot of the information in the book is outdated. Worse, quite a bit of the book is given over to advice on how to eradicate these weeds chemically or using a “plow it all under” technique that Would tend to aggravate the problem. Nonetheless, this is at least interesting to a serious student of permaculture as a historical study; just don’t take the advice too seriously. For current information on using weeds as diagnostic tools, a number of comprehensive permaculture texts will be much more helpful.

Really outdated ideas, and most of the weeds mentioned aren't pictured.
Not very useful as a field guide and the ideas are not at all helpful.

No color here
I assumed the pictures would be in color for better identification but they are not. The pictures are black and white and hand drawn, therefore this book did not work well for me.

Too American orientated
Not really what I expected thus limited value to me but very interesting groupings based on soil type and I suppose I do not have time to transpose the useful American info. for our UK weeds.
