Interesting view
The story is interesting to read. I love the story line but I guess I tried to compare it to The Yearling and across Creek and it isn't as good. But it isn't a bad story either.

A fabulous memoir of living next door to an iconic author, Marjorie Keenan Rawlings..
This is such a fun book! ALL of my Book Club members just loved it. Glisson and his family were the salt of the earth in this unique setting in north central Florida. Then, the relationship between them and renowned author Rawlings is priceless. Rated G- for all ages. A little language, but that’s life!!

Growing up on Cross Creek....
a great book on living in rural florida in the early 30's and 40's. I loved it.It was written by the man that grew up next door to Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings in theyears that she lived at Cross Creek and did most of her writing. The Yearlingand Cross Creek are probably the two she is most famous for, The Yearling won hera Pulitzer prize and was made into a movie.. He brings to lifethe small boy that learned how to live off the land from his dad. It'sa great story and very funny in spots.....I can understand why he lived at theCreek all his life.....

Inciteful, funny and sometimes tragic look at Cross Creek from a cracker who grew up there.
If you want a more accurate and even better written account of events at "The Creek" during the 1930s, this is the one to read - immediately after reading the Rawlings version. This will be the more accurate and interesting. Glisson's life is an extraordinary one and his quasi-autobiography "Guardian Angel 911" is the easily digestible account...highly recommended. While Rawlings take is a good read, she spends too much time on her relations with "the help". Her attitude with virtually everyone who lives there and makes their living there is maternalistic and rather self-serving. If you read her biographies you will find a very disturbed woman.

The Creek
I really enjoyed this book...it is nonfiction and a great read at what it was like growing up a boy on Cross Creek... The descriptions of daily life may not be an action adventure...but just reading of the battle with insects, snakes and trying to out smart the game wardens was well worth the read...I would recommend this book...

Good companion book to Cross Creek
It is enjoyable to have this book to 'fill in the gaps' of the questions one may have after reading Cross Creek. The personalities in the book are vivid and believable.

Learn about the REAL florida
As a Florida transplant, I have had a hard time adjusting to life here. This book changed my outlook and thinking about the great state I live in.The author describes his life as a youngster who moved here from another place. His experiences give a glimpse of the real Florida people and lifestyle. It's a fun and interesting read. I first read this book at the library and liked it so much I knew I had to purchase it to keep in my own library.I highly recommend this book.

A Look at Old Florida
The Creek is a delightful look at rural FL in the years prior to and shortly after World War II. If you have already read Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings' Cross Creek, The Creek will provide additional information and entertainment, as well as give you the added perspective of a native whose family and father in particular were featured prominently in Cross Creek the book. I found the book thoroughly entertaining and a worthwhile read. It along with Cross Creek is a must read for anyone with an interest in North Central FL.
