Well...the cat loves it.
I would recommend this scratcher for kittens or smaller cats. The scratcher is a little small for larger cats but they probably won't mind.My Henry is 11 lbs and very fluffy and long. Because of the shape of the scratcher he is able to get up on top of it and sleep on it or just lie on it. He does hang over the edges but he couldn't care less. It is now his favourite place to sleep. He looooooooves to scratch on it and rubs himself all over it and for this reason I love it too as he doesn't feel the need to scratch my furniture anymore! :)It is light, though- very, very light. It is all cardboard, after all. So it will tip over if a bigger cat goes on it if it isn't balanced. If it is on tile or wood (any hard surface really) it will slide all over the place when your cat scratches it. But if you have carpet or a little rug with rubber backing on which to put the scratcher, then it stays in one place and works great. Unfortunately my floors are tile and so when Henry uses it both he and the scratcher are sliding all over the place. For the price though it is a decent enough product, serves its purpose and the cat loves it.

Great for a picky cat--even for a big, picky cat
I've tried several scratching posts & flat, rectangular cardboard scratchers, and S-chaise scratcher is far and away the best. If your cat doesn't like vertical scratching devices, I recommend this--your cat can hop on and scratch, with just enough dimension to keep it interesting.I made the mistake a little while ago of getting a folding screen, not even thinking, "oh, the cat's gonna love this!" and lo-and-behold, he attacked it with relish. Desperate, I looked around for an S shaped scratcher that I'd remembered seeing somewhere, and the only place I could find it was Amazon. The moment I un-wrapped it and put it out, my folding screen was saved. He hasn't even touched it since!I've noticed that some reviewers have mentioned that their larger cats don't like the S scratcher. Of course, all cats are different (no kidding, right?), but I'd just like to add that my cat is 15 lbs. with a bigger frame than most cats I've met, and he both loves to scratch on it and will lay down on it as well. The Bottom Line: if your cat has shown little-to-no interest in vertical or flat scratchers, give this one a try!

Kitties LOVE It and it looks good.
The catnip that comes with it, wasn't needed. The kitties ( bro & sis rescued after Storm Sandy, approx 8 months old now) LOVE it, claimed it as soon as it was unwrapped. They scratch on it, lounge on it, sleep on it. It immediately entered the kitty rotation of places to be. I have two other rectangular scratchers and was inspired to get this, when the kitties began laying on and fighting over the newer one. Well, those other two are abadoned. This lovely S shape gets moved around the floor, is incorporated into peek-a-boo games, is flipped over, and used like a spring board. The spotted side strip delaminated upon arrival. Since I'm not fond of the pattern, this did not displease me, Indeed, I tried to pry the other side off, but it was firmly attached. I may buy another, so the third cat (11 years old) might have a chance for access.

Should be cheaper.
Its cardboard. When you put the catnip on it it falls right thru the holes to the floor.I wasn't really expecting much but I did expect the catnip to actually stay on the board.Amended 2/3/21 Change to 4 stars.I have had this for awhile now. I wanted to come back and amend this review. My two younger cats, 9 months old aren't thrilled with it.My older cat however, loves it. She is 10+ years old.She walked up to it and tried to scratch. Because its light it flipped up towards her a bit then dropped back down. So she climbed onto it sat in the curve and started scratching away at the hump. Now she comes an sits in front of me until I put catnip on it for her. Almost daily.Does her thing, then trots off to get in her hamper.I do have it on a piece of cardboard to catch the catnip, which I just gather and put back on it.Of all the cat toys/scratchers I have bought her over the years, she likes this one best. I think its the sitting. lolIt holding up pretty well. I will buy it again when this one wears out.

I love that I can flip it over if they use ...
I don't really know how to review this. This is essentially a piece of cardboard in an S-shaped design. We purchased these because we got two new kitties and wanted them to have something to scratch on. This was affordable and had decent reviews so we took the plunge! The cardboard seems to be of decent quality. I love that I can flip it over if they use one side too much. The price seems fair. The kittens scratch on it occasionally, and they like to knaw on the sides of it. Unfortunately, they do not really use this scratcher unless I douse this thing in catnip. I am not sure why. This has become an "old boring" toy in my kittens' eyes. Further, my biggest complaint about this item is the shape of it. If the kitten sits on one side of it, the other side lifts in the air (like a seesaw). In other words, this thing is really light weight. The "hump" is not big enough for a kitten to play or lay underneath it. If the kittens do use this item, they either claw at it for a few minutes or lay on it like it's a mini cat lawn chair (haha).Overall, I would recommend this product because it is decent quality for the price. However, I want to make it clear that not all cats will love this thing, as the reviews suggest. My cats seem pretty "meh" about it.

Our cats love it
We have purchased so many of these scratchers that we have lost count. From kittens to the old guy, our cats love this scratcher and soon wear them to shreds. On the down side, we find bits of cardboard strewn about the house. On the plus, no scratched furniture or draperies! Although considerably more expensive than when we first purchased them several years ago, we have yet to find a substitute of equal durability and cat pleasing quality.
