Danco (10002) Universal Moen Trim Kit for Single-Handle Shower Valves, Compatible for Moentrol Series, Brushed Nickel

Because of comments I read regarding quality I was apprehensive about ordering this kit. However, I didn't see any good alternatives so I decided to give it a try. In my humble opinion the quality is fine. Yes some parts are plastic but so what? Nothing broke during installation and it looks great. The only way to break something during installation is if you don't understand how it goes together. Because it's a universal kit you have to be careful to choose the correct parts. The finish goes well with my other brushed nickel fixtures. I've been using this kit for a few weeks now and it still looks great.

Good fit and quality. It made a big improvement in our shower and matched the nickel finish of the shower wand. Easy to install.

Have used these multiple times, of course seems a bit pricey for plastic when anything other than nickel in metal costs less. Moen apparently has a thing for this too as any older official Moen capable trim set in nickel will be $250-300. It's plastic, it works. If you don't beat up on it you'll be fine. I'm sure everyone wishes this was $35, but it's the same price EVERYWHERE. Regardless of the 'basic' materials you'll get it done without another trip looking for a bit-it's quite comprehensive. I've done multiples of these and end up with the crystal knob every time(older conversions always seem to leave the lever looking a bit too far out), so I can't comment on the durability issues I see with the lever. But if you've already made three empty handed trips and spent more than an hour online looking for something 'else', you pretty much made up the silly price surcharge on these.

We searched and searched for a way to update our dreadful crystal ball Moen shower faucet and escutcheon. None of the "universal" kits worked. None. This one, however, is specifically made for Moen, and was in the brushed nickel finish that we needed. And what a change it made. This was worth every penny. Installed easily, and looks and feels fantastic. Some reviews complained about the escutcheon being plastic. Let me explain something: You WANT it to be plastic. A) It as much like metal as, well, metal, and you don't touch it, so there's no tactile drawback. B) Plastic doesn't rust. C) plastic has some flex, so when you such the screws down to create a seal against your shower wall, the escutcheon sucks back toward your valve instead of sucking the valve forward toward your escutcheon. Your old plate was likely metal. And it was made by the same yahoos who thought that a crystal teardrop would make a gorgeous shower handle. But I digress. This is a great item.

Pros: basically the only universal trim kit on Amazon that looks acceptable to me. Price is reasonable. Shipped overnight. Cons: cheap injected molded plastic that isn’t reinforced. Looks cheap and feels cheap. In the photo the red arrow points to the tabs on the faceplate insert, they are tiny and fragile. The tabs do not have much holding strength to maintain connection to the faceplate itself and they chip easily. The blue arrow shows the instruction for assembly, H1 has to connect to G. Edit: The finish on the handle is falling off completely. The calcium or corrosion makes the handle very difficult to remove. I really don’t like this product. Switching from 3 stars to 1 star

We just got our shower stall tile and tray re-glazed, which gave us the opportunity to replace the old brass fixtures with nickel. This seemed to be a reasonably-priced solution for our Moen setup. As another person posted, the inner part of the trim sits about a 1/4" inch lower than the outer edge of the trim, unlike the old brass plate. We have fairly-generic four-inch white tiles. And of course, the squared-out area of the tile would not accommodate it. So, I took one of the inner plates and held it up to the hole, and used a sharpie to draw arcs where I needed to cut the tile. I put some wide painters tape around the perimeter for reinforcement. I grabbed my drill and some tile-drilling bits, and started carefully drilling holes just outside the arc, knowing there was an ample amount of safety margin. I took a pair of pliers and carefully broke off the two half-moon shaped pieces of tiles. Finally, I took a rotary tool with a grinding bit to smooth out the edges a bit. The plate was now able to sit flush in place. (NOTE: I had some spare tiles downstairs, so before I did this for real, I put one in my bench vice and practiced this on a couple of them. Main lessons-learned: use a fairly-small bit, and use gentle pressure and let the bit do the work, lest you break off a much bigger chunk than you want. I certainly didn't want to risk breaking our newly-coated tile. ) The rest was pretty straightforward. The long screws that hold the plate in place were barely long enough; maybe four or five turns worth. Since the plate is plastic, you'll definitely want to be careful to not overtighten it. Also, the large o-ring around the plate doesn't seem very thick...it almost seems like it bottoms out before the plastic edge contacts the tile. I haven't decided whether I'll use clear caulk around the edge yet. Finally, the metal handle seems to fit just fine on mine, with no wiggling like others have reported. YMMV. All in all, it required about an hour more work than probably needed due to the inner depth, and the plastic doesn't seem especially durable, but the metal handle will probably last for many years.

Arrived on time and in good condition. Installation was easy and straight forward. The product looks great installed and yes, I would purchase this unit again!

This kit worked great to replace old fitting in a new house we moved into. Great price point as well. Know thats it not metal but you cant tell the difference from the appearance. Works great in the shower all the same. Instructions were super simple as well.

Great replacement unit as it fits many styles! I needed to replace my old moen with brushed nickel and didn't want to replumb the shower cartridge unit!

It fit perfectly just as described! Easy and inexpensive way to update shower without having to purchase a whole package.

A big thank you to the company that made this! I bought 3 for a condo renovation and saved me a fortune on taking tiles off to change the valves out. Finish quality is high.

Don't bother. Installed it and already cracking after 2 months.

The "metal" handle and the plastic faceplate actually match quite closely in appearance. However, the handle seems to be made of cast aluminum spray-painted with a rough-texture paint, and is very uncomfortable to touch and hold. I would recommend the chrome finish instead, even though normally I would prefer the brushed nickel look.
