My hands and especially my feet, often, but not always, get cold toward the late evening. Now, most of the time, for most of my waking hours, just wearing snug, warmer clothes is comfy. That is how I decided 60 F was OK. The hitch is NOT that I have the sense that my feet are cold. On the contrary, most of the time I don't notice my feet are cold, unless I put my feet against warm hands, for instance. Then my hands feel my feet as icy. If my hands are cold, they feel icy against my face. And my hands or my feet do not readily return to warm after they have gone cold. The problem is that when I get in bed, under my thick, snug blanket, my feet soon begin to have the sensation of being icy cold, and they will not feel or get warm, even though the rest of me is, for about an hour and a half. I can't get to sleep before that. I have been accepting this for several winters, but it occurred to me, browsing Amazon one day, that some kind of local heat would be the solution, and would be cheap to operate. The added heat of this heated mattress pad gets my recalcitrant feet back to warm fast enough that I get to sleep in approximately the same amount of time as in the warm seasons. But since I am comfy warm without the pad heat at that point, and I sleep more soundly without extra heat, for reasons unknown to me, I really need the pad to turn off after I am snoozing. Since this pad has an analog controller, you can use it freely with a timer (Tork 401A at Amazon), one of those 24 hour ones for putting lights on and off to keep thieves from noticing a house is vacant. Since my sleeping hours drift a bit, I use the timer differently. I just picked an hours time of "on" permanently, and twist the dial to that segment a few minutes before bedtime. I have to remember to unplug the next morning, so it won't go back on at a time that I might not be going to bed. Electricity is currently charged, in this area, at roughly 13 cents per kilowatt hour. The pad pulls less than 100 watts, or a tenth of a kilowatt, so my added electric cost per day is less than 1.3 cents. If I left it on for ten hours, it would still be only 13 cents. I confess that I now actually enjoy going to bed with icy feet, because it feels so good when they are warming up. I think it is the same effect as enjoying food more when you are really hungry. ### ⭐⭐⭐ You get what you pay for! *by K***X on Reviewed in the United States on October 21, 2011* What a fiasco getting this mattress pad to lay flat on the bed! It should be a 2 person job if you're in a hurry. Even though you get the heated mattress pad as flat as you can get it, it still shows bumps & hills after the fitted & top sheet are put on. Hopefully after a time it'll settle down. The queen pad has dual controlls, each totally separate from the other. It requires 2 electric outlets to operate both sides of the bed. So, if you have your alarm clock plugged into one of the electric outlets, you'll need to buy a multi outlet plug to connect both of the controllers, or you can connect one controller to an electric outlet on the right side of the bed & the other controller to another electric outlet for the left side of the bed. Once everything was all said & done, we went to sleep & the warmth is there! I had to turn my side down to a setting of 4 to be comfortable. Higher than that was too warm. It's nice to have that extra handy if it's needed. This is the least expensive model with analog controllers. Maybe the more expensive pad with digital controllers will be a bit easier?Just wanted to update my review with some gripes about some annoying features on this Biddeford Mattress Pad. First off, the auto shutoff is very annoying because it is only staying on for about 8 hours or so. So I wake up feeling a bit chilly around 4 to 5 AM & then have to turn off both controllers & then turn them back on again! Second Gripe is about the numbers on the controller's dials. When the mattress pad is on, the dial is backlit with a soft orange glow. But, the numbers on the dial are done in a very light color & are very hard to see when the controller is on. I had to take a thin black marker & go over the numbers in order to see them when it's turned on. Third Gripe is about the how the mattress pad lays on the bed. It's been almost two weeks & it hasn't settled down. We can still see the bumps & hills through the bedspread. Last gripe is about the placement of the heating wires in the mattress pad. The wires end about a foot from the bottom of the mattress. So, if you are a tall person & like to stretch out while you're asleep, your feet don't get the warmth without having to curl up. The wires at the top of the mattress pad go all the way under the pillow. We had to put some extra padding under the fitted sheet to lessen the heat by our heads. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Warmer Nights *by B***N on Reviewed in Canada on January 2, 2020* This product works well. I turn it on about half hour before climbing into bed and it warms the bed up for me.
