Better than more expensive alternatives
Ideal dash cam. Quality item, easily installed and works as well as more expensive OEM alternatives. I really like this. The screen does not stay visible when driving, which is great as it removes any distraction. Perfect HD quality image and i luv the GPS option and personalised registration number on the footage. Very well made. I purchased a 90 degree elbow to connect the USB more easily (they should include these i.e. LHS and RHS for the complete package).

Excellent Dash Cam!
Granted this dashcam isn’t the cheapest but it is also not the most expensive, for the money (I paid £80 in a sale) it is alot of bang for your buck. The video quality is surprisingly good, very much an upgrade from my previous dashcam which was a generic Chinese brand with a happy sounding name. Video in the day time is sharp, clear and can pick up reg plates with ease. In the evening/night it can struggle with reg plates if there is a massive speed difference but that is understandable. I’m yet to order the hard wiring kit and the polarising filter however installation was a breeze and the size/shape of the camera allow you to slot it behind your rear view mirror and it’s basically invisible while driving. Functionality wise it’s easy to use, press menu to take a photo, press the big warning triangle to record a clip. Simple as that! Would recommend grabbing the polariser as glare can be an issue around sunrise/sunset but I do a lot of driving during unsociable hours so that’s up to you ultimately.Overall for the price it’s a solid choice and you won’t go wrong. Viofo are a recognised brand and the police/insurance companies both recognise it’s a good camera. So much so my insurance premium came down by a tenner once installed. Would absolutely recommend this dashcam!

The best dashcam I've had + 1 year edit
This is my fourth dashcam since 2012. The first, an expensive one failed a month out of warranty and would have cost a lot to fix. I've tried two cheaper ones, one of which recently failed, and the other is OK but has no GPS. So, I've had this camera for 6 months now and it's still working fine. It's wired in through the standard 12V power outlet (cigarette lighter socket), so I don't get any protection once the engine is off.Picture is very good, day and night though it doesn't have any night vision facility. You're not going to be able to grab the registration plate of every vehicle that passes in the opposite direction (ALWAYS read out loud the number of any vehicle you need to report), but it'll pick up those in front of you. I'm using a 128 Gb card, so I get a week's worth on it.The only issue I've had is with the camera unit rattling on the GPS module. I've just used a piece of blu-tak as a cushion. It's not audible to me, but there is a rattle still on the recordings. A bigger bit of blu-tak is needed.Other than that, I'll probably replace the one at the rear of the car, plus those in the other car with one of these or something from the same manufacturer when the time comes. For the money, I recommend this.Edit: I've had this for almost a year now and am still pleased with the quality but I have found that the settings of the camera are constantly being lost - e.g. speed units - it often reverts to km/h; and time zone - often returning to GMT, not GMT +1 as set. Other than this, so far, so good. I was involved in an incident with another vehicle being driven dangerously and the number of the other car was readable even though it was travelling at high speed in the opposite direction. Good enough for a prosecution - and it was before the aforementioned problems, so no explaining to do.

Good Dashcam at a reasonable price
The A119 has a wedge-shaped design which is good as that means it hugs the windscreen and is far less obtrusive than dash cams which hang down on suction mounts. You can generally tuck it away behind a rear-view mirror so it’s out of sight. However, doing so can make it a bit awkward to see the 2in screen and use the five buttons to adjust menu settings, but once set up, you shouldn’t need to see the screen or press any buttons anyway. As the camera slides off the adhesive mount it can still be removed from the car easily enough when required, and since the USB cable plugs into the GPS mount and not the camera, you don’t even have to unplug any wires. With a Sony Starvis IMX335 sensor, the Viofo A119 v3 can record 2560×1440 video at 30fps. If you prefer 60fps, just drop the resolution to 1920×1080. On top of the sensor Viofo uses an f/1.6 lens with a sensible 140° field of view. Please note that no microSD card is includedUnlike some dash cams which can record at a slow frame rate while parked, the A119 uses a super-capacitor instead of a battery. Capacitors are better suited than li-ion batteries as they can withstand the huge temperature range that dash cams have to endure, but it does mean the A119 needs external power to operate. That’s why you need the HK3 hard-wire kit if you want to use the parking modes. Once the 12V and acc wires are connected to your car’s fuse box (and the earth to a suitable earth point) you’ll be able to set up the buffered parking mode. The buffered part is important, because unlike dash cams which only start recording when they detect motion, the A119 v3 can record 15 seconds prior to motion being detected through to 30 seconds after. It will record if it detects motion or if the G-sensor is triggered by an impact.Compared to most dash cams at this price, the A119 v3 produces better image quality both during the day and at night.Even when recording at 30fps, images are still sharp when you pause the video and it’s usually possible to make out the registration plates of any vehicles in the frame, so long as they’re not too far away.At night, the image is brighter than you’d get from most rivals, but of course it’s almost always impossible to see any registration plates unless you’re pulled up close behind another car in stationary traffic.A119 v3 is a great choice. It does the essentials well, recording very good quality video and offering that useful buffered parking mode that will hopefully provide the evidence you need should anything happen to your car while its parked and you’re elsewhere.
