Quite an undertaking
This is a well written book describing trails in the Cherokee Nat'l Forest. It groups trails by area, but would benefit from a little additional organizing into categories such as day hikes, waterfall hikes, overnighters, etc. Nevertheless it gives a good description of what to expect and a few highlights along the way. This book will provide details that other trail books of the area will not cover - even though it lacks some organizational aspects and wilderness details I find personally useful, it is a go-to book for trip planning. It contains a little history on some the land covered in the book without too much political agenda. The mountain biker, horse rider, or jeeper won't get too miffed in the occasional pro foot-trail only commentary. The trail ratings are covered as the USFS would rate them and as the Nat Geo trail maps rate them so you will know which you feel comfortable with after a few hikes. It is a sturdy book for a paperback - not for the pack necessarily but certainly for base camp.

Four Stars
A little dated, but still the most comprehensive and detailed guide on Cherokee National Forest hiking trails.

Great great book!!!!!
Not entirely accurate, but definitely one of the best hiking books I have ever bought! Very good descriptions of the trails along with some interesting history. The only downside to the book is that I found some of the mileage to be off on some of the trails.
