The Complete Works of Friedrich Nietzsche, Vol. 8 (Beyond Good and Evil / On the Genealogy of Morality)

Best translation and edition for scholarly work with Nietzsche.
If you're considering this product you're likely far less interested in a review of the contents. You probably are more concerned with the edition's editorial standards and the quality and consistency of the translation. The history of this project can be looked up elsewhere but I'll say to keep it brief: the point of this project (this volume and the whole Stanford collected works) has been to provide a consistent translation that holds true to the original German and avoids interpretive translation (a notorious problem for other N translations Kaufmann included). Things like always translating Trieb and Instinkt as drive and instinct (I think I may be wrong I'm relying on memory) ensure that you, as the English reader, know what specific terms Nietzsche was using. Furthermore, the thorough endnotes describing changes, underlines, previous notes, omissions, etc. from Nietzsche's notes are incredibly insightful for scholarly work. The only thing I could possibly imagine counting against this is I've heard it argued that these aren't as 'artistically lyrical' as others and some have said this is better for scholarly work but if you're just a light reader perhaps Kaufmann will be a more pleasurable read. I don't know how much I buy that. I find the consistency and assurance of knowing what exactly Nietzsche was referring to more helpful than lyrically interpretive translation but that's a call you'll have to make. Perhaps it'd matter more for works like Zarathustra rather than BGE and GM but I'm not certain. I'd recommend it immensely. I'll be opting for these over my Kaufmanns for the foreseeable future.

Nietzsche's work is amazing
Extensive commentaries accompany this book containing Beyond Good and Evil and Genealogy of Morality, also sometimes called Genealogy of Morals. Nietzsche pushes back on religion, conscience, morality. He pulls back the curtain on the machinery of these societal elements, highlighting how they negatively influence people. Nietzsche is a fine and entertaining writer, something almost wholly lacking in other philosophers. Although Nietzsche presents himself as decidedly illiberal, his agenda is wholly in line with those, liberal or otherwise, who want to push back against the reactionary agendas that organized religion has always been about, especially Christian and Jewish. Highly recommended and an excellent edition to start with. Very reasonably priced for what you get.

scholars continue to see reason crumble
The absurdity of people thinking in times that shift and shuffle order of magnitudes fictions could turn into Chinese revenge like stab in the back women in bed with power of hyperbisexuality.

Great translation.
Just got done with the Beyond Good And Evil portion and am in the middle of Genealogy. This is a great translation, with plenty of notes that include translations, references and even previous drafts.

ONE OF THE GREATEST MINDS IN HUMAN HISTORY
This is a rate book. Often mistaken as the father of 'nazism'. Nothing could be further from the truth. If only this was the kind of book that teenagers and even scholars read. Adolf would be killed in his grave. However, the essence of this book is not to give up (providing circumstances allow you to do so). In the future, we will only be a chip created by Neuralink and one that will destroy our minds. Poor things!

Excellent translation, Nitzsche has always been a tough read, but this is the definitive book for Nietzsche.
