Excellent strings
I've never understood the love for a particular (industry standard) phosphor bronze string. Whenever I've played them I've found them excessively bright and noisy. I don't wish to brand bash but lets just say they are very popular and found in most guitar/music stores.Enter John Pearse, either in Phosphor Bronze or 80/20. These are a different animal in my opinion. Right out of the pack they are excellent, offering full and gorgeous tone. It is really hard to describe tone to somebody so you will just have to try them for yourself. I like the feel of them too- not slick like a coated variety and not grabby like aforementioned string. No tone-robbing coating to deaden vibrancy and no flashy-gimmicky treatments. And, unless you are a strummer (certainly nothing wrong with this), you likely play in alternate tunings. Most expensive coated varieties will suffer metal fatigue in just 5-6 weeks and your strings will begin to die tonally regardless of what fancy coating is on there. So then you just have dead tone for even longer! Up to 4 months!! Seriously, get a pack of your favorite coated string and pack of John Pearse in the same gauge. Record them playing the same chords or songs and listen to the playback. Your ears will tell you. Here is a good tip for extending the life of your strings too. If you want 6-8 weeks of solid tone out of John Pearse (or any uncoated string) get yourself a bottle of Keyser String Cleaner and Extender and wash your hands before playing your guitars. You will get at least 2 more weeks of life out of them.

Save your money, buy another brand.
I was disappointed in these strings. I prefer the warmth of Phospher Bronze strings and the complex harmonic overtones that they enhance. These John Pearse strings did neither. They were harsh, brassy and lacking in sustain. D'Addarios Phospher Bronze are warm and rich with great sustain. For this review reference I put them on a Martin DRS1, solid Sepele dreadnaught.

Great for DADGAD!
I'm a fan of John Pearse strings, and love the New Mediums in DADGAD where they basically behave like lights in standard tuning. (These in standard tuning, however, not crazy about). Exactly the tone in looking for, very long lasting, and I definitely both hear and feel the difference in the restored tension in the dropped 3-5 strings vs standard lights.

Great strings with bright tonal quality that has a "punch" ...
Great strings with bright tonal quality that has a "punch" if needed. They provide the full gamut of sound - dramatic lows and brilliant highs.
