Q: Has anyone had problems with this not making the tortillas thin enough. Everytime I’ve used it I’ve pressed and pressed but it’s still too thick

In my experience, the thinness of the tortilla is based on the softness and size of the dough ball. I’ve played around with my 8 inch press and discovered that a 40 gram ball of masa dough will make a thin tortilla about 5.5 inches across; a 50 gram ball will make a thicker tortilla of the same diameter. I realize that doesn’t sound like it makes sense, but that’s the way it works

Q: In the recipe book, just curious it says; make dough into balls, do you know by chance what is the weigh in grams of these balls?

I don't weigh, but they should be bigger than a ping pong ball, and smaller than a tennis ball. Just experiment until you get the size you want. Mine were 10" using the above method, but I had to keep pressure on for about 6 seconds.

Q: Does the top portion of this press lay flat when opened or does it catch and stay open?

No, when open the top is upright in an L position. However, what keeps it upright is a small cast iron TAB at the base that could easily be grinded off so the unit would lay flat open both base and top

Q: Why didn’t I receive recipe book

The download is emailed to your email by the seller. You click on the download and the attachment downloads to your device by Adobe Reader or whatever else your device uses. You can then open the e-book and it's about 85 pages. It took a day or so to get the email. I bout the 10" press.
