A plug-n-play fax machine on Windows 10
Even though this comes with an installation software mini-CD, if you're using Windows 10, it's really just plug-n-play and works seamlessly with the built-in Windows Fax and Scanner application. It worked perfectly first time for me. For those of us who still need to send/receive old-fashioned faxes and either don't want to use an on-line service for this for security reasons (keep in mind that with on-line services your documents have to be uploaded to the service's system and that adds the chance for data theft) and/or don't want to pay monthly or annual fees, this device's one-time purchase price and ease of installation/use solve both problems. You DO need an old-fashioned landline, though. Fax machines don't work over cellular systems or voice-over-IP (an effect of how those work which the fax protocol could not have predicted when it was developed).

Easy to use...
I use this particular modem with my RoboCallWall unit that helps filter SPAM and other unwanted Phone calls (as I'm an Author (Terror Strikes: Coming Soon to a City Near You) and there are some folks that do not appreciate the controversial, in some places, content, and I get harassing calls (Trolls just cannot help themselves but want to spread their vile/hate) to have to block on a landline (Cell has easy-to-use App for that)) and the old one was acting up and needed replacement. But, again, bottom-line, maybe/could've used a "cheaper" brand, but this one has worked so well (yes, despite my having said the original one that came w/ my RoboCallWall unit failed, it happens, equipment can/does sometime fail and need replacement) that I wanted to have an exact match replacement to know for certain it would work.Joseph M Lenard (aka: JLenardDetroit)

Works well installs automatically on Windows (newer)
The Unit works as it should, and Windows 7 and 10 both recognized and automatically installed the drivers.I had to access the drivers for my specific Win XP Virtual Machine. The software drivers disk is a small type and does not work in a slot loading drive. I did have to contact support more than twice to get the drivers emailed to me. In the end I wanted to comment in general and I would say learn form this example. Support was good but not easy. The system that I need this modem to program on suggested the HIRO MODEM as the only compatible modem but this one worked fine.

Everyone should have one.
You will need this if you are dealing with any Govt Agency or Bills. 'FAX, IN PERSON, USPS'. Only 3 'LEGAL WAYS OF FORMAL ACCEPTED DOCS WHEN DEALING WITH THE GOVT'.

Could not load required Drivers
Package contained no installation instructions. Had drivers on small disc but was unable to load proper drivers. Several folders on disc with many drivers with no explanation of what to load. Had instructions in Word but didn't match info on disc. Box didn't have any part number that I could cross reference to any driver file. By trial & error tried to download several drivers, but when I tried to send fax all I got was error messages. Tried to contact vendor, but no luck. Amazon couldn't solve problem either, so I sent unit back.

Not compatible with certain software. Circuit is easily overloaded.
Had a thunderstorm storm and the thing shorted lol.

So far / So good
I am a USA customer. My old Caller-Id modem crapped out on me after 6 years so I was forced to go find another. Not an easy thing to do these days. All the modems out there are cheap and CLAIM to be CID compatible - but not all of them are. Plus finding driver support is virtually impossible.I can confirm that this modem was plug-n-play with my Windows 11 PC. Didn't have to download or install ANY drivers. Just plugged it into a USB port and it worked. Test one, passed.Test two is Caller ID: I can also confirm that the caller ID function of this modem works. I don't know about other countries, but here in the USA it displays name and number just like my old modem did. So test two passed.Final test is longevity of device. I can't speak yet as to this as I just installed it today. Much as I hate the fact that my old modem died - I did get 6 years out of it. A little low for my preference but not unreasonable, I guess. If this new one craps out on me in the next few months I will certainly be back to update this review. However, after a few weeks if I'm still happy with it I'm buying another to have as a spare. Save me the headache of evaluating whatever the flavor of the month modems are out there years from now when this one dies.So....no news here is good news. So far....I give it a "Buy" rating!

Works great, but not easy to set up.
This neat little device does a great job - once I got in running. there was no setup specifically for Windows 10 so I found one for Windows XP and that worked fine. I have used it successfully with no issues at all. Back to setting it up - this was a challenge. This modem comes with a mini CD which has several different installation programs and it was a matter of trial and error until I found the one that would work. A hard copy installation and operation manual should have been included and if well-written and easy to understand, would have really helped.
