ABUSGranit X-Plus 540 + USH Brkt 300mm LS Shackle U-Locks

I'm new (again after a 10 year hiatus that is) to biking. I bought a new bike which set me back $1600 (a bargain these days apparently).I researched locks, fully expecting to get a Kryptonite. At this price point though I decided to go with what other reviewers said about this one. It seems like a good choice.I like the long U shape of the lock. It makes it easy to secure the bike to things. As others have noted the key system is great, works easily every time.I had to look on Youtube to figure out how to install the mounting bracket but it was easy. One thing to note is I was going to install a bottle holder on my frame also but this lock is so big I don't think I can do that now. That's ok, not a big deal. Would still rather have a quality lock like this.Not much else to say about this, it's just a bike lock but seems to be well made (comes from Germany after all), has a killer lighted key that comes with it and all around an excellent lock.

I went with this ABUS lock, after reading about key operation / locking cylinder problems with another brand. This one operates very smoothly (after 1 month of operation). I love it!! I also chose this one, due to the high ART and Sold Secure GOLD ratings. Yes, it is heavy ... but a 13 mm chain for the same application is heavier ... and this is just as secure. I'm also using the USH mounting bracket, attached to the seat post tube (Trek Verve 3 Disc). It fits perfectly. The U-shape portion runs parallel to the top tube. I added a velcro strap to provide added support, wrapping it around the bike top tube and the u-shaped portion at the far end. So far, with about 200 miles, the mounting bracket + velcro strap have worked great! (The miles have been over mostly sidewalk riding, with some pretty bumpy cracks/joints.) Very, very happy with this product. Highly recommend it!

When I bought this, I thought it was one of the best rated U-Locks on the market. Turns out that's a slightly different Abus that doesn't seem to show up on Amazon. Oh well. Still WAAAAY better than a cable lock.So far, no theft, so I can't personally attest to the security of the lock. But I can tell you about the ergonomics: this thing is BIG. Which makes it useful for locking your bike up to non-ideal structures (the extra reach of the U is helpful). But it makes mounting trickier. If trying to mount it in the center triangle, it totally eliminates even being able to fit a bottle cage. There are a few ways to mount it to the side of the seat post, parallel to the bike, but those interfered with my rear-mounted kids seat. I ended up mounting it on the rear seat-stay, and it seems to be working nicely there.That being said, the mount that comes with the lock is MUCH better than the mount that came with a different U-Lock i purchased. It gives you a lot of flexibility in mounting options.Yes, this thing is heavy. But I don't notice it, and you probably wont either unless you're a pro racer.

Quality of craftsmanship shows. Other locks just cant compare, no matter how brand loyal you might be this one will win you over for life! When you insert the shackle into the lock it really has an impressive, solid, secure feel to it.... almost like closing a door on a German made high quality sedan. The 12 inch shackle inside height along with the 4.25 inside width makes it great for my fat tire e-bike, I can get it around the rear tire and my seat tube and use another to secure it to a rack, or the rear tire and lower frame to a rack. The weight obviously isn't an issue for me but I find it very easy and manageable to use. I keep it secured to my rack and tube for transport as I feel the included mount in my application and riding habits may not stand up... I don't want it dropping off an 30+ MPH. Don't think about it, just do it, 2 of them equaled the recommended 10% of the value of the bike for me.

This is a sturdy lock that can’t be beaten.

Ever since owning my ABUS, purchased long ago, it has served me well. My husband’s old ABUS lock pre-dated mine, and despite oiling, it was occasionally proving difficult to open. Now he has the updated version of mine and he is happy. Kryptonite keys can jam or break in the lock, as this happened to me some time ago. I like the key of the ABUS better, even though it is larger. It is far hardier. I also like the size of my lock and the bracket that comes with it for attaching it to the bike frame. Both manufacturers offer great locks. I decided to give ABUS a try and have been content ever since.

A great lock, but a little short. That makes it hard to lock your bike to a railing or post if you can't get right up against it. Other than that a very good lock, much better than a chain and it really does seem to be indestructible.

This is just what I wanted, the most secure U lock I could find. I am trying to get a second Abus lock Bordo folding 6500 or 6510) in a different style keyed to match, but so far no luck. I am going to be using this in combination with other locks to secure my ebike for short periods of time. This one is good to secure the frame to an immovable object, or the frame and one wheel together. On some racks, I can secure the frame and rear wheel to a rack together. I cannot use this by itself to secure the frame and both wheels, of course. I will probably use at least 2 other locks with it to make my bike as secure as I possibly can...It is not light, which is a plus for me. I have it strapped to my rear rack, under my pannier bags, with lots of heavy-duty velcro. Works for me!

Very good build quality and a general feeling of high standard. The lock is covered with a smooth service and the inside of the U is a rubber like surface (probably to avoid scratches on your bike or vehicle that you look). I would strongly recommend this lock and it's good that you get a key-number so that you can make a new key incase you loose both of the keys that comes along in the package. I got the lock after 2 days of ordering it.

This is the longer 300mm version (12 inches) u-lock from Abus. Gives a bit more reach for easier locking of your bike frame and wheel to a bike stand or post compared to the 230mm version. Heavy, sturdy and not cheap. Good for any bike but especially best for an e-bike where there is pedal assist electric motor to help you with the extra weight this lock adds to your bike during your ride. No lock is burglar proof but this is one of the hardest U-lock to break into according to reviews.
