Fly-Fish the Surf

Lee is such an awesome writer and this book of his touches every aspect of this incredibly fun sport.He gives great tips on reading the water and what to look for. His flies have a great track record. A must read for every fly fisher who fishes the surf.

This book is great for reading the water and knowing where to cast IF you have a good eye for the water. As a beach-nik for 70+ years and a history of beach life guarding, reading the water is no problem. A novice will find that all the water looks the same, and I'd recommend the novice observe a chosen beach at both low and very low tides before casting a line. It pays to have an idea of what the bottom is like when the water is higher. I would have liked the book much, much more if there had been more information about types of bugs and where and how to use them. Especially HOW.

It spelled it all out for a person to get into it and showed the ocean surf isn't scary. I must have book.

Great book. Well written, very helpful, and full of great and useful information. Highly recommend. Now, I just need to get fishing! Author is local to me...maybe I'll run into him. Get this book.

I'm a surf fisher utilizing predominantly spinning and baitcaster reels and wanted to give fly fishing on the surf a try. If you already fish from the surf, this book is really not going to teach you much. It's a basic cursory overview of surf fly fishing, so basic that I read the entire book in an hour. In my opinion, you are much better researching info on the internet and watching YouTube videos or finding another book.

This book is short and to the point, it lets you know what you need to have a chance with a fly rod in the surf. It's also entertaining and fun to read. The best bonus: I contacted the author on Twitter, and he offered to give me whatever help and advice I needed on my upcoming trip to Oceanside. Great guy!

Very nice attempt to describe the shifting structure of waves and sand. If you surf fish the west coast at all, fly or otherwise, this is worth a read.

This book makes it so you have no excuses to not get on the beach and fly fish! Just do it!!
