Air compressor for home use
The Dewalt D55168 air compressor doesn't take up much garage space, and is not as noisy as other brands. I purchased this factory reconditioned compressor mostly to fill a portable air tank used for adjusting the tire pressure on our vehicles but also to be used to run some air tools occasionally, etc. This compressor is continuous duty, but the instruction sheet advises not running the compressor more than 35 - 40 minutes each hour to extend the compressor life. Maintenance is minimal for this compressor as the tank needs to be drained after use to remove the water that accumulated in the tank. The power switch can be set to either "off", or "automatic on" setting which kicks the compressor on at 175 psi and kicks off at 210 psi. The compressor takes around 6 minutes to fill the tank, then turns on and off automatically as the air is used. The working pressure to the air hose is adjustable with a knob on the front panel where the tank pressure, and working pressure gauges are located. Extension cords can be used, but are NOT recommended, instead use additional air hose which should be rated at 300 psi. Overall this compressor is compact, easy to move, easy to use, fills quickly, and has good working pressure for use in and around the garage!

Bad products? Bad delivery?
I bought this thing twice, both came in a broken product.

DeWalt Compressor rocks the competition
I bought this compressor because my previous Husky brand had died on me. I had a 26 gallon before that always had troubles, so I was a little skeptical about going down in size to a 15 gallon tank. I am a believer now. I'm not a scientist or good at math, but somehow the extra psi on this tank helps it perform much better. It is relatively quiet for an air compressor, and charges faster than most compressors. It out performs the bigger compressors out there, and charges at a higher psi than others, so you always have psi on hand for your projects. I use it a lot for vaccum chucking which requires constant air flow, and blowing off parts and such. I also have used it for nailers, and wow!, it makes the tools perform at their best as well. Some people have complained about the valve on the bottom of the tank. This is not a problem for me, I still have a good back. It is not a pull-out like many, it is a switch that you twist. Really very easy, not sure why people complain about that. Dewalt/ Emglo have made a great compressor here, and I hope they continue to make it in the future. One last thing, if you are running a big shop that needs lots of air, this is obviously not for you. But if you have a garage or small shop that you will need a solid, reliable compressor, then this is the one! ACME tools is awesome, great company and very very fast!

DeWalt made a great shop product and then didn't think enough of it to protect it during shipment.
The delivery was made in a timely fashion and the compressor itself seemed to be exactly what I wanted for my needs. It had the right size capacity and portability to take care of my needs. I am replacing an older 40 gal. compressor which has served me well for many years, but finally gave up the ghost. I read the reviews that warned that a number of these compressors were delivered with damage. I rolled the dice and sure enough it came with the leg or stand all bent from a severe blow or drop. The shroud was shattered, and the air filter was broken off as well as most of the hardware was missing. The box looked as if it had been taped back together multiple times during its journey and was quite misshapen from what you would expect. There was lots of tape holding it together. The packaging material inside the box was badly crushed and some was even missing all together. It was very disappointing to see that DeWalt did such a poor job of packaging a heavy piece of equipment like this. I tried to get them to send replacements for the broken or missing parts, but that was not an option. The only option that was offered was to return it for a refund. Amazon offered no other option but to accept delivery and pay for the repairs myself. DeWalt said that they couldn't do anything because it was not beyond the 90-day threshold of responsibility. The compressor is now sitting in my shop waiting for a return pickup, and I am waiting for a refund which may not come for 3 to 4 weeks. Worst of all, I am still without a working shop compressor.

Ordered back in March 2016. I ran it and filled tank twice just to make sure it worked. At the time it seemed to work fine. I put it to use 9/1716 was up on ladder sanding house. I used the compressor to blow dust off shingles, it did not run long. It Had a weird smell of cotton candy. The compressor shut off and blew several circuit breakers. I tried several different outlets I have 200 amp service. I had to use my little pancake nailer compressor it worked fine and kept up. I will try to get refund or at least repaired. I also tried running without extension cord.

came with a birth defect I mean the pole assembly for the bumper caoutchouc feet was soldered in crooked ( in th jig ) position so you have to add spacer to make it at nivell As many people mention it happens in transport. I figure it not the case but came built like that. Mine work fine without any leaks an as other mention the air regulator look not very accurate but easy to replace at a later date. For the price I paid It is very very good and make it the only one in this class to worth the money.

It ran well for the first year or so but then threw a piston by year two....too much money for something that won't last....and I don't use it that much which is disappointing. I bought because I believed dewalt was a dependable brand.....I was proven wrong.

The only reason I give it a 4 star is the hose pressure valve is terrible. I live in a colder climate and the hose pressure valve is really hard to turn when it is cold out. I had to put a half inch of hockey tape on it so I can turn the hose on or off. Other than that one thing, this is great unit. It powers all of my tools like it should, and it is quieter than I expected.

I received my new Dewalt D55168 Air Compressor yesterday via UPS. It arrived sooner than listed on the the Amazon website, as is so typical for Amazon, kudos to Amazon for quick delivery of items ordered. After installing the wheels and rubber pads, I let it run for 15 minutes with the bottom valve open to break it in as some had suggested. The thing I noticed right away was how much quieter it is than the old 20 gal compressor I got from my dad. It had rusted through on the bottom of the tank so I needed a replacement. It is not whisper quiet but definitely quieter than the old one it replaced. After some research on different air compressors, what impressed me about this one was the CFM of 5. A few years ago I had a smaller compressor before getting the one from my dad. The smaller one did not handle the air powered ratchet that I had purchase so the higher CFM is nice to have. Having read a few reviews with one mentioning they did not get the bolts for the wheels and rubber pads, when I opened the box and did not find a package of bolts I was concerned, but when I removed the wheels from the styrofoam there they were under the wheel. A couple of reviews mentioned about the unit rocking because the front floor bracket was out of alignment, but mine was fine, so they either resolved the problem, or it traveled better in shipping than theirs did. When I closed the drain valve on the bottom, after the 15 minute break-in period, I let it come up to full pressure; it took a good 4 - 5 minutes to shut off. I was getting a little concerned when it went past 200 psi, but it did finally stop at 215 psi. I had a leak in the regulator valve, but otherwise everything was fine. I did a little research on the Internet and found how to install a Repair Kit, which Amazon carries, so I contacted customer support. They refunded me the cost of the repair kit. I opened up the pressure regulator today and re-greased it with silicone grease (don't get silicone sealant by mistake) and then put it back together and it is working just fine, but I will get the kit so I have it should it start to leak again. Yesterday I had turned the regulator valve to 0 so it would not leak, but there must have been a slow leak as after approx 2 1/2 hours I heard it start up again. When I attached my hose there is a slight leak in the connector, so I just disconnected it and left the power on and I left the regulator set at 90 psi to see how long before the compressor starts up again, after about 1 hour I just heard the compressor kick in. It took less than 1 minute to recover to full pressure. I am very pleased with the compressor and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a good quality air compressor with quick recovery and a high CFM rating of 5.
