The Best There Is... Period.
I had a Sony X800 from day one. I loved it. The upconversions were the best I had ever seen, by a large margin. With my new upgrade to a Samsung 9000 series 86" TV (easily the best TV for the money, anywhere) I opted to upgrade my player too. This Sony UBP-X1100ES player coupled with the Samsung 9000 series TV is almost beyond description. For the first time, we have achieved actual movie theater feel, look, and effect. It is truly amazing to get that movie theater feel and look while sitting on my comfy leather sofa, at home. I highly recommend it.Most will want their personal choice of theater sound bar as well. I won't go there because I am partially deaf. This player, Sony UBP-X1100ES, is quite a thing to behold. Seriously, I cannot recommend it and the Samsung 9000 series 86" TV highly enough.

Solid Flexible Player With Great Audio & Video
I bought the UBP-X1100ES to replace another Sony player (BDP-S500). The BDP-S500 was a fine player & was still working but after 12 years had become outdated; wouldn’t play half my discs; didn’t have WiFi or internet capabilities; & wasn’t 4K compatible. After extensive research it came down between the Panasonic UBD-9000 & this unit. The Panasonic had slightly better reviews but when Amazon offered this for under $500 (the UBD-9000 retails for $999)) I couldn’t resist. This unit had all the features that the old unit didn’t plus a few new features such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, & YouTube apps.Setup was easy & now my whole video library is open again ! This thing plays EVERYTHING including super audio discs & even has a USB port. I’m not going to go into all the technical aspects (there are other reviews that will gladly do that) but the sound & picture quality are far superior to what I had before !So far, I’m VERY PLEASED with this purchase.

It will play almost any disc format
It's an excellent blu-ray player the only negative thing is that Dolby vision should have a auto option.

Critical Oversite
I liked the Sony player in most respects but there was one critical oversite that made me return it. It has no ability to automatically detect the proper HDR settings which means you have to pick your HDR settings virtually every time you watch an HDR DVD or a streaming movie and since I watch or stream movies often I returned it. I was surprised to find this out considering less expensive players do this. It's something I would think would be a standard feature on all DVD players but I was wrong. So unless you enjoy having to figure out which flavor of HDR the movie your watching is in and adjusting the setting every time, you'll find the Sony to be a great player, but I'd go with the Panasonic DP-UB820-K which is just as good and has auto HDR switching. (which is what I did)

Very nice upgrade
I upgraded from the X800, I’m impressed with the 4K up-conversion and mechanical quality. Finally a display window, much easier than using the remote to track time.I was aware of the lack of auto-detect for the Dolby Vision before buying, but all thats needed is a software update from Sony to get that feature. The lack of auto-detect is not a show stopper for me, my review is based on the overall system, not just one feature

excellent picture as well as audio
Replaced a Samsung 8500 with this unit. Had returned a Panasonic 9000 because of video blacking out for 2-3 seconds on multiple discs, also settings on that unit were quite intimidating. Out of the box the Sony has picture quality as good as the Panasonic and audio far superior to the Samsung. Very happy. Couples beautifully with my Sony AG9!

Major problem
I bought this unit because it could play both blu-ray and SACD disks. It worked for about 4 months when suddenly and unexpectedly it stopped responding to the remote. It also wouldn't respond to the power button on the unit. All it would do is open and close the disk drawer. Checked the remote - batteries good, even looked at it through a camera - all buttons work. Unplugged/replugged the unit to reboot - still no resposnse. It took 2 days to get a hold of someone from Sony. When someone from the Sony Professional group did call we connected the unit and suddenly it worked. He said the issue was usually a power problem through an hdmi cable that causes a short. I had to say my unit hadn't been connected to the hdmi in over a week (I use it primarily for audio) so it could not have been that, but suddenly the unit was working again. Next day - guess what? Once again the unit is unresponsive. I'll leave it unplugged for at least several hours and see if that dissipates whatever short there as it seemed to happen the first time, but even still I want to return it to Sony under warranty. It's a huge disappointment.
