Special purpose head
What this bowl-shaped steel trimmer head is good for: Cuts grass and woody weeds pretty well. Can denude an area down to bare soil in short order. Can take out the roots as well as the tops...digging down about a half an inch or so. It is safe to use right up to tree trunks, wire fences, wood, concrete and so on. Many reviewer gave it a one star rating because it does not come with a set of washers for attaching to a weed trimmer. One reviewer said he found a way to make it work with washers. I decided to take a chance because I have a lot of washers I've collected over the years. I found two that worked on my Stihl gas trimmer. See the images.I will keep it. Will it replace my normal trimmer head? No way. Do a search for "Tri-clone Trimmer Head". Don't think it is on amazon. I've tried a lot of different heads and this out cuts them all. Very fast on everything up to heavy, woody weeds, knapweed...even cuts small trees up to three inches. Much faster than this new metal head. Also have a plugin string trimmer for grass that is light and quiet, prefered where appropriate.

Works as described
As others reviews have mentioned, this does not come with any mounting hardware, it is just the metal dome shaped disk. I understood this when I ordered it so I was not surprised. Mounting it really isn't that hard. I had enough spare washers and nuts lying around my garage that I was able to find a set up that worked without making a trip to the hardware store. Mounting may be more or less difficult for some depending on the weed trimmer you have, the number of washers and nuts you have lying around, etc.Once I had mine mounted and took it out for a try, it worked surprisingly well. I used it along my chain link fence and along a wooden shed and wooden flower bed and it handled the grass and weeks fine with out causing any damage. I have an overgrown area at the back of my yard with some think growth and larger weeds and it handled those fine as well. I have always hated having to string line and feed it out while using my weed trimmer so I liked using this device. I've only used it twice so far so I can't really speak to it's long term durability, but so far it is holding up well with no real signs of damage. The paint is a little marked up but that's about it.

Works Great with a Brush Cutter!
Your browser does not support HTML5 video. First off, this thing works great and it needs absolutely nothing additional if you have the right equipment to begin with. This was made for a brush cutter (despite the advertising). It won't work with a string trimmer without an adapter or at least some fiddling with washers. If you don't know the difference between a brush cutter and a string trimmer, a brush cutter is normally sold with a steel 10 inch carbide blade and will cut through small trees up to 3 in in diameter. It's a HD string trimmer on steroids and the mount for the cutter head is completely different than a string trimmer. My brush cutter, a Honda 4 stroke, did not need any additional parts to attach the cutter head. Since brush cutters use a generic blade, the attachment parts are all similar. This should fit any brush cutter without additional parts. If you have a string trimmer, it probably isn't powerful enough but you also have to buy an adapter kit to use this cutter. Apparently other users found you can fiddle with washers to get it to work.I've seen comments that it isn't sharp and it doesn't last. I've just spent half a day eradicating ivy ground cover. It's in exactly the same condition as when I started. No it's not sharp. Neither is your string in the string trimmer. This thing is functionally more like a string trimmer then the 10 inch cutter blade in the brush cutter. It's not made to be sharp and therefore you don't need to re sharpen it. The parts that stick out a bit are made to cut the same level of stuff you would cut with a string trimmer but you can dig down into the leaf litter a little. Any steel tool dug into ground (dirt) will wear out very quickly. If you're a bit circumspect with this and avoid digging holes with it, I think it'll last for dozens or hundreds of uses.In my vide, if it seems to miss things it's only because I'm holding my brush cutter with one hand and videoing with the other. The brush cutter normally requires two hands to hold so I'm actually not controlling it very well. This cutterhead works great for cutting back ground cover.

Cheap steel. No mounting hardware.
(No mounting hardware included)This thing worked quite well for bushwacking inbetween rows on my farm but after the 3rd time using it the thing is done. I found a way to use a series of washers to mount it on my Echo trimmer but since there was nothing to keep it on a true center the thing eventually wallowed out the center and friction welded two washeres together. It is now useless and a waste of money, time and materials. Thanks china...

Universal with NO universal mounting parts
This seller gets you good. In order to actually make this 100% universal, they make you buy the universal mounting parts completely separate. I feel as if I got hosed!

Need attaching hardware which is separate
I had to get a different gear head to use this but this is a life saver. I recommend getting the attachinghardware before ordering so you don't have to wait to play with this. Great investment
