Perfect Mini Mag UPDATE
NEW COMMENTS:When I don't sleep well, I have a short temper. I didn't sleep well, last night. So, when my LED Minimag didn't stay on, this morning; I lost my temper and slammed the flashlight against a desk, hard enough to dent the edge of the desk and scare my Lab out of a perfectly good squirrel dream. I decided to strip the flashlight for parts, and in the process I discovered that the battery compartment "cap" (on the butt end) was not tight. After tightening that cap, the flashlight worked like new. Here are two new comments about this product:1. Make sure the end cap is screwed on tightly (but you already knew that).2. Don't whack the flashlight against expensive furniture (it's bad for the furniture and scares dogs).Maglite, I apologize for doubting the durability of this little flashight; and I take back the nasty things I said when I thought mine had failed. This thing is TOUGH (just not idiot-proof)!ORIGINAL REVIEW:Love the gray color, size and light weight. I think this 2 cell puts out as bright a light as my 3 cell. I presume the batteries in the 3 cell might last a little longer, but it is an awkward size to carry on my belt. Anyway, this little 2 cell LED model is great!I don't remember the Amazon description saying anything about a selector "switch" that allows you to choose full power beam, reduced (battery saving) beam, steady flashing light, or a flashing SOS (3 shorts, 3 longs, 3 shorts). When I read that on the packaging, I couldn't find a "switch". Just by accident, I found that by turning the light off and back on changes the setting. The reduced beam is plenty bright for most needs and is supposed to extend the battery life significantly. I presume all these 2 cell LED Mini Mags have that feature, but maybe it was just mine. If they all DO have that feature, Amazon should surely say so, because it is a great selling point.I see some reviewers try to compare Maglites to other brands; but some of the other brands they mention cost triple what I paid for this little Mini Mag gem. In this price range, I don't think you can beat it. Buy several, because they make welcome gifts (just ask my daughter, ha).

It's a maglite... You can't go wrong.
I've owned several of these mini-mag LED models. This one was for my father who like camo and anything that comes in camo. Other than the finish which is much more of a matte finish as compaired to the polished metalic finish of it's brothers in the mini-mag LED series, there are no differences in this model. This is still a five function model which EVERYONE and I do mean EVERONE should own at least one of. This is perfect for camping, the tool bag, power outages, and to be kept in the car for emegencies. Simply put these are the BEST small flashlights on Earth! Their LED so battery life is excellent, and they are BRIGHT! This lights up an area better than any standard D-Cell incandecent flashlight I've ever seen! Sure their are lithium powered exotic lights that are brighter, but those are intended to be defensive weapons, not tools. What about modes and uses...-First off the bezel is the switch as well as the focal dial. It can be focused from a wide array of patterns (from beam to flood) or twisted off entirely to act as a "candle" of sorts. When using this as a candle, stand the lights "butt" into the bazel and us it as stand. (This is the first of the aforementioned "5 modes". The rest of the list is reached by leaving bezel on and quarter twisting it off and on a set number of times to reach that mode.-ON --> "Bright Mode" -- Turn the bezel ON once gives the brightest and highest output beam which is fully adjustable.-ON-OFF-ON --> "Low Mode" -- This mode gives the LED about 50% power and makes it good for lighting something up close (as the first mode may wash out a close surface with brightness. It is also good for better battery life and navigation at night. This mode too is adjustable for beam.-ON-OFF-ON-OFF-ON --> "Strobe Mode" -- This is a once per second warning strobe as opposed to a defensive one. However this is a highly visible becon which could warn oncoming persons or vehicles of an obstruction in their path. Or just to the fact that you are there.-ON-OFF-ON-OFF-ON-OFF-ON --> "SOS Mode" -- This is a standed person's best friend. This light can give anyone passng through an area the universal sign of distress and in potentially save a life. It's bright enough at night to be seen even from a distance of about a mile. From any mode, turning the light off and leaving it for 2 or 3 seconds will reset the list and the next time you turn it on it will be in bright mode. Any mode can also be used in candle mode as well. Of course beam dispursion becomes an issue at that point but it could still be quite useful.

Very Durable and Bright
The media could not be loaded. I really like how bright this light is and I am amazed at how long it's been working for me. I've had mine since 2016. I will admit that I don't use it on a daily basis but it's still incredible that it works after 8 years. I used to frequently use it during college when I was a theatre production major and now I just have it stored away in a drawer in case the power goes out. It has been a really great flashlight.

High quality with one shortcoming
This small flashlight is the kind of high quality product you expect from Maglite. All-metal construction, a very bright, full beam for its size, and what I would consider a good run time (11 hours at full brightness) given it uses only 2 AA batteries. And it's made in the USA.My one complaint is the switch mechanism that turns it on and selects different modes. On and off should be handled by a button that can be easily actuated with the hand holding the flashlight. Instead, you have to twist the top part of the unit to the right and, while it might be technically feasible for at least some people to do this with a single hand, most will need to use two hands. At best, it's inconvenient; at worst it could be dangerous in an emergency situation where the other hand is holding on to something or carrying something. It's also somewhat confusing to have all functionality in one switch. Twist it once to get a full power beam. To get 1/4 power you have to immediately turn it off and then back on. A third time off and on to get blink mode. If you don't get the timing just right you don't get the mode you want. I'm not really trying to discourage people from buying what is an excellent product, but the Maglite people should have thought this through a little better.
