After purchasing a new HP laser printer (Laser Jet Pro M404n) and the initial cartridge was coming to its end, I had to weigh the cost of this cartridge with simply purchasing another printer. The later course of action has been what I have done for the last five printers (inexpensive Brother printers) which I discarded once the printer was out of ink and replaced with a new printer. However, the print quality of this printer plus the quality of the machine itself, integration with my computer plus the quality of the cartridges far exceed any other printer I have previously owned. Thus I invested a small fortune for one HP 58X cartridge which once unpacked slides easily into place and restarted my printer for endless clean, sharp prints. I have tried none brand name cartridges in the past but you get what you pay for - terrible results. Thus we are held captive by HP and how much they charge for these toner cartridges. They are certainly not worth their current price of $222 since I purchased the printer for nearly half of this one sale. I never see these cartridges on sale anywhere. Thus we shall see if it delivers a much large print quantity. If so (lasts me six months or longer), I will reinvest in another one. Anything less, I will likely go back to replacing printers as they are on sale. Seems like a terrible recycling waste yet it would be foolish to fall for these companies' games. Businesses typically do not have the resources to do this but as a private consumer who has 4-5 printers in my home office, not a problem. With all that said, I was impressed by the quality of this toner cartridge and the best looking laser printing I have from many different printers. I use HP high quality paper as well - this I can find on great sale prices even here on Amazon in bulk. Wish they offered the same for this toner cartridge or at least a 15% subscription plan discount.

Not sure about all the negative reviews. This toner lasts a long time for me in my office. I print many documents a day and just printed a report page and it says I have printed 8,884 pages on this cartridge. It does say the cartridge is low but the print quality is just as good as it was on day one. I am using an HP M404n printer. Maybe the people who are only getting half of the "page yield" are printing extremely dense documents or even photos in black and white? My only gripe with the toner is the price. It costs more than I paid for the printer (which comes with a regular toner cartridge installed!). It is still better than buying knock-off ink and ruining the printer components though, just wish HP would lower their ink prices a bit. But you know what they say: GOOD, FAST, and CHEAP, pick 2.

This is a brand new toner cartridge straight from HP. It is not a refurbished and refilled cartridge. I have price checked all over because I go through these every few months. This is the best price I have found!

Cartridge works fine and is genuine HP, but it's 6 years old since manufacture.

We have two of these printers in our veterinary clinic, and I have found that purchasing the name brand hp product works best for them. Lasts for the expected time, easy to replace. Highly recommend
