Cartridge Gauge
This gauge is perfect for what I was looking for, it lets me know my bullets and brass are going together they way they should. my only advice would be to use a little case lube for a few rounds because the casings on this metal doesnt allow the completed bullet to slide as smoothly as i would like but the gauge is accurate and cut back on jamming.

A MUST HAVE FOR RELOADING
This little go/no go headspace gauge is a must have if you reload, specially 40 S&W. Some once fired brass will have bulges at the head space, specially those fired by a Glock from what I understand. Anyway, after resizing your cases I run them through the casing gauge before I do anymore other processing so I can remove those cases that have defects resizing doesn't take care of.and don't waste time on out of spec.cases.In short, if you reload these reloading gauges are a must for the safe loading of previously fire casing. It is fast and simple, This is another tool you need to produce safe quality reloads and takes several aspects of checks into one simple little cylinder.

Works as advertised - an essential item
If you're doing any kind of reloading, you need a cartridge gauge. This one is made of high quality material and is made to the SAMMI specs and can help identify problems with sizing, bulges and the like. A good diagnostic tool, but at the end of the day nothing beats dropping a round into the actual chamber of the guns you use.A tool like this may make you exclude ammo you've produced that may be good and work in your guns. For instance, if you reload .40 brass shot out of glocks, it will likely not fit in these gauges after being reloaded unless you use a pass through die. However the brass may be just fine and shoot wonderfully as most guns don't conform to the minimum chamber dimensions of the spec like these gauges enforce.

Good but Not Finished Well
First off, this does the job. The Lyman Cartridge Gauge does a decent job at measuring loaded .40 S&W cartridges. The reason I gave it three stars is in comparison to my 9mm gage by L.E. Wilson, the Lymanis rough inside, they didn't do a good job of smoothing out the bore causing the bullets to catch and hang up. It just isn't finished well. When you are chamber testing 400+ rounds, this is inconvenient, slowing the process down. Sometimes cartridges get caught up as a result of the unfinished bore rather than being oversized. This was about five dollars less than my L.E. Wilson and I didn't have to pay shipping, but with this said, if I could go back in time I wouldn't order this. I'd have spent the extra dollars and gone with a Wilson.Don't get me wrong, this will do. I don't like knocking a product and saying "by this brand instead," but this is a rare occasion where the difference is tangible.

An absolute must if you want to ensure your reloaded rounds chamber properly.
Measures case min/max, as well as cartridge over-all length. Makes it real easy to ensure your bullets are seating properly when adjusting die sets.Wish they had these for 38 SP and 357 also. One critical thing these dies provide is "cylindricity" testing. Sometimes a bullet gets loaded further to one side of the case than the other. The overall diameter will be the same, but the round will chamber with difficulty. You will notice that problem immediately with this gauge as the cylinder walls need to be straight all the way around or the cartridge will bind in the gauge.

Max Pistol gauge
If you reload .40 S&W YOU NEED THIS TOOL.Without it you can't be sure the case base has been properly sized. I have found problems with reloads that did not get sized properly. since then I now re-size the entire case with a setup from Redding. This eliminated all the problems I ran into reloading this cartridge. Of all the reloading I do this is the only one that has that problem that i have found.

This was a great addition for my reloading
This was a great addition for my reloading. I had run into some brass that would not seat in my Sig 1911 chamber even after being resized in the reloading process. This checks your brass against the SAAMI spec so you know if there is any bulge in your brass before you reload and you can quickly check your reloads. This is a great investment for anyone shooting with guns that have very tight chamber specs.
