John N. Hansen Hoberman: Mini Sphere - Firefly Glow

Got this for my kid because he likes things that glow in the dark and he plays with the other (colorful) hoberman mini-sphere. He loves playing with this at night, usually with other glowing things or flashlights. Loads of fun. Haven’t had any issues with the sphere, considering the complex design and many interlocking parts & joints. Obviously, my kid doesn’t try to bounce the sphere off walls, but he does enjoy tossing them into the air and watch them change from a ball to ‘spikes’.I do need to rotate his toys because he’ll get bored or stay up past bedtime, but that’s a parenting thing not a toy thing.

Ah, this toy was a huge part of my childhood. I had these in multiple sizes and colors and they never broke. The same goes for this one - the quality in their products is still alive and well today. Even my german shepherd has taken a bite at it when it was fully extended a few times and it still works great. I find myself opening and closing it because it's so mesmerizing... This might be surprising to you, but it's a fun little toy for all ages!

I've had a long delight in a larger version of this that was part of a toy collection at a children's camp, and was so pleased when I found one in a size I could keep as an office desk toy....until, less than a week after arrival, used for only opening/closing/tossing in a small confined space, I realized one of the small plastic connectors was already lost. That's compared with at least 5 years of use I've seen the larger one go through before it finally had a minor issue--and use by children who find many ways to be hard on it.I checked with the manufacturer, hoping for a replacement part, but they shipped me a whole new sphere instead. Great customer service!

Kids loved it, I must now order one for sissy. My k-boy takes it with him in the car, it is great vecause it is easy to carry around and the glow in the dark is a plus for night trips. They can play with it without distracting me or asking for the tablet/mom's phone. I am trying to eradicate the use of electronic devices and this item had helped tremendously. *Along with the Lego pull apart dinosaurs.

Got this for a Christmas project and it worked beautifully

My kids are so drawn to it and will practice belly breathing while I expand and close it. My cat is now showing up for me to use it to scratch her neck with it. (Not my original intended use but a bonus). I have not checked to see if it really glows in the dark.

"Santa" bought this for my 6 year old son for Christmas last year. It was his favorite toy! He found how it worked facinating for his young mind and the design and concept is inspiring as well as educational. It has very smooth motion as it expands and collapes..it glows brighter in the dark then I even imagined...and it breaks so very easily, with hardly any effort at all. My son didn't smash it, didn't drop it, didn't hit it...nothing. We had it for 2 days before suddenly, as he and I were playing with it, one of the little tiny plastic links that folds in and out as it explands just suddenly snagged or twisted wrong for no reason with another part and before we could even stop and see what had happened, the flimsy plastic piece just snapped right off. Just like that. The toy still worked, and I tried to glue it anyway, but the plastic is that funky kind that doesn't go well with crazy glue and the pieces are so small that I was afraid it would accidently glue the whole joint together..so we left it like that so he could still play with it. It just was a little stiff in that spot since it lost some support. The next day, as he played with it with his father this time, it happened again in another spot. Then again. And again. After 4 days total it was entirely unusable and I had to toss it out. I was so upset as was my son. It wasn't a lot of money to buy, but this was his favorite toy and to see it last less then a week (when handled very carefully too!) was just so disappointing. So please, DO NOT BUY THIS. Save your child the disappointment and find a better quality one made with metal or harder plastic from someone else. I sure with I had. :(

We played catch as a family in the dark, and had so much fun. This ball opens and closes as you throw it which makes it fun. My 11 and 6 year old both loved it. Many 11 yr old son tosses it around and has played with it every day for the last week, one of his favorite Birthday presents!

I always wanted one of these as a kid, and now I got one. It's super fun to just play with while relaxing. It's trippy and psychedelic and in the dark that's especially true. Cool 3D fractal patterns, it actually surprised me how cool it was to play with in the dark. The glow in the dark part isn't very bright, but if you shine it with a flashlight on your phone it gases it up pretty good. I heard a black light makes glow in the dark stuff extra bright.I keep finding myself playing with this thing while I'm thinking or watching videos. No regrets with this, it's nice decor.
