Master Your Metabolism: The 3 Diet Secrets to Naturally Balancing Your Hormones for a Hot and Healthy Body!

Master Your Metabolism
Interesting book though far, far too much science in it for the average person (BTW - I have a Master's degree and a former college roommate is now a registered dietician so I've been around related books and discussions and still found this hard to follow). Also, it's far too extreme for the average person. For example, we can't all afford 100 percent organic all the time nor can we completely avoid plastic wrap and related carrying containers. Also, the book contradicts itself in a lot of places. I suspect the editor was MIA when it came to cross referencing. The bottom line in this book is to stop eating all the fake food that we currently put into our systems and you'll lose weight. Since reading this book, I've significantly cut processed foods loaded with chemicals (yes, that means the Activia yogurt, low calorie jello and pudding, cool whip and other so called low calorie snacks that actually make you gain weight). I've replaced a lot of food staples with organic and have seen a big difference in my weight and disposition. For the person who wants to get smarter about the way 'the man' is ruining our diets and making money through cheap, processed foods, the core elements of this book could have been better addressed in a 500-750 article along the lines of 'Top 10 Ways to Lose Real Weight and Keep it Off.' Here's some key tips from the book to save yourself the time and expense of reading it:1. Stop eating chemicals because your body doesn't know how to process them, therefore, you gain weight.2. Choose the real food (real cheese, for example) over the lower fat because you'll eat less and feel more satiated.3. Go organic when possible.4. You can still eat chocolate and drink wine but everything in moderation.5. Opt for glassware over plastic to cut down more chemical absorption.6. Those 100 calorie snacks are pure marketing and chemicals.7. You still have to work out, people. And really work out to break a sweat.8. The amount of chemicals that have snuck into our food system has reached an alarming rate. Makes you wonder about the rise in cancer, diabetes and auto immune diseases.9. Think twice about OTC drugs as they also contain chemicals.10. Eat better/eat right and you can cut down a lot of health issues and drop a few pounds while you're at it.

Easy to understand nutrition information
I read another review that commented on the science in this book. The writer stated that she holds a masters degree and could not comprehend the science. I also have a masters degree, and I had no problem with the science. After reading her review, I was expecting statistics and a detailed breakdown of the study. This is not the case at all. This book is an extremely easy read. There are studies cited but not much else. She does explain our body processes and the impact of food, chemicals, etc, but again, this is all easy to understand and vital knowledge. This book is full of nutrition and food choices impact on your body and health. It really is easy to follow.I am not interested in loosing weight, but I do have high blood sugar, and despite every attempt to lower it, including cutting it out as much as possible, I have not been successful. I will know if this book has had an impact when I return to the doctors, but I can say that I do not experience daily sugar highs or lows by following the book.I have had my thyroid removed, and I currently have high blood sugar. Surprisingly, I am a little under weight, but obviously, I am not healthy. All this book suggests is eating whole organic foods. She explains what chemicals and processed foods are doing to our bodies in easy to understand language that is detailed. Then, she explains, down to items of food and conditions, how to improve this. Organic does cost more, and she addresses that. You can also always plant your own vegetables as an option, and seeds, even organic, cost next to nothing. I will say that I noticed a difference in the way I feel within a few days, and I do see a reduction in my abdomen. It is almost flat now. This book was well worth the purchase and read. A lot of it is obvious, and we all know we shouldnt eat pesticides, chemicals, fast food, lard or processed foods. The body is not designed for that. So, this isn't a fad.The book really is all about eating healthy and being healthy. I enjoyed reading it, and I regularly look to it as a reference.Since buying it, we have completely switched to organic, we are learning which fruits and veggies are in season to prepare a shopping list, we have grass fed free roam meat and eggs, and I have cut down my sugar consumption to under 5 tsp a day. I also, only drink water. Finally, we bought certified organic lotion, body soap/shampoo and conditioner.I don't know that I would throw everything away as suggested in the book, but, since I have four kids, our food depletes on a weekly basis. I was able to switch almost everything within that week, and the rest was switched as we ran out. I will replace my plastic storage containers and cups soon too. We are now considering planting a vegetable garden, and I feel good when I wake up. For a family of 6, usually spending around 250-300 a week on groceries, our bill increased by $20 for organic. We buy 3 gallons of organic milk a week, and we have every organic fruit you can imagine. The cost is small, and I see and feel a difference that makes it worth it.This is an excellent book that we all should read.

Really this book is amazing. It contains so much info on nutrition and food. If like me you have tried diet after diet and restricted calories so much you've messed up your metabolism this is a must read. I didn't realise how much rubbish is in food just for food companies to make profit. No wonder smoking has reduced but cancer has increased if we eat all these poisons. Really recommend thIs.

Informative! Very relevant for the US food market.
A really interesting and informative book on hormones and weight gain or loss. Obviously it is written by the excellent Jillian Michaels who is American and therefore a lot of this is less relevant in the UK (for example, dairy farming practices and corn syrup). Also a lot of the ingredients for the suggested meals are less easy to find in UK supermarkets! But it’s a good book, I learned a lot!

Too much info, not easy method to follow
A big no for me. This book was far too boring, too much science behind it. The method was also not an easy one to follow
