If you welcome change, you’ll love this book.
Iv been fallowing Dr. Mark Hyman for the past year. I love his podcast. He has educated me so much with them on what my body needs. I’m 45 year old male and over weight with bad cholesterol and blood pressure. I have been introducing his recipes A little at a time and removing foods from my diet that are the wrong things to put into my body. I have lost 20 pounds in less than 2 months and feel better ever day. The book is easy to fallow and gives you everything you need to cook and eat healthy.Thank you so much Dr. Hyman!!

great book
I just received this cookbook and threw out a lot of what was in my kitchen. I don't particularly like to cook anymore (I am a 70 yr old widow), but I also sent my son and his wife this book. She is a professional chef but I think they will both learn a great deal from this book. I know one thing for sure, the key to any foodstuff is to READ THE INGREDIENTS. I am not overweight but I have been through many traumas in my life, including losing my 2 youngest sons. Ergo, my cortisol levels due to trauma are high and I am going to check these recipes out to see if that helps me calm down. I wish I had read this cookbook when I was younger. While I have no health problems, except for PTSD caused by grief, I am curious as to how well the proper diet will help me cope each day. I like to eat simply, and I literally will eat an avocado straight out of the shell. I also realize that sugar is an addictive drug and how it sends me into a spiral if I eat it. I bought cashew butter the other day and threw it out later because it was made with palm oil. Again, READ THE INGREDIENTS. I will completely eliminate sugar and all processed grains and stick to mostly vegetables that I will cook along with eggs and use avocado oil. As I said, I like to eat simply so I will have no problem eating salmon with bones straight out of the can. I notice I don't eat as much anyway as an older woman. I DO notice that if I eat sugar it sets me off and I feel horrible an hour later. I love the substitutes in this book and I will hit the grocery store tomorrow with a new list. This book says a lot about food being medicine, and I intend to use it. Thanks, Dr. Hyman.

Excellent, Easy to Read and Understand
Great book. Dr. Hyman does an excellent job of writing and editing. My feeling after reading this book: Take this diet to HEART, if you suffer from pre-diabetes, diabetes II, or heart disease. If you, or a family member, do not suffer from any of these diseases, think seriously about following this diet in its entirety. It is an extremely expensive and it can be a time consuming way to eat. I took the Big NO-NO’s from Dr. Hyland’s diet instructions and incorporated them into my diet. That will be good for my health and I will spend a little more on food, but I will not need to spend enormous amounts of money on FOOD.

Nice cookbook for people who want to be adventurous
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE cookbooks, and I love Dr. Hyman, but some of these recipes are unrealistic for a working mom on limited time and money (me). I can cook, and yes I love to get fancy in the kitchen, but sometimes when you're out of work and homeschooling kids afterwards and driving kids to practice you don't want to look at a recipe book with more than 15 ingredients, some of which you can only get at whole foods which would cost me $10 in gas alone just to get there.

A Great Resource for Low-Carb and Keto Eaters
If you are trying to eat cleaner, incorporate more vegetables and seeds, and avoid gluten, this is an excellent cookbook. I wasn't familiar with Hyman's other book, but I'm definitely going to be reading it. I've been managing diabetes with diet and exercise for more than a decade, and I have a feeling that the recipes here will add new spark to my menus.I've tried three recipes so far, and all were relatively easy, if a bit time-consuming as far as measuring ingredients was concerned. The Flourless Protein Power Bread was easy to put together and made an excellent addition to my morning breakfast. (If you're not dairy-free, it's superb toasted and spread with a thin layer of cream cheese and a sprinkle of cinnamon.) It's very hearty, and even a thin slice makes a filling snack. The Savory Seed Crackers were a gloriously sticky mess to make, but every baker occasionally enjoys mucking about in a pan of sticky goo. They were definitely worth the time and trouble, and I suspect these will become a staple in my house. As will be Blushing Beet Dip. It's a beautiful, brilliant magenta colour and tastes mostly of sesame (because it's got a good bit of tahini in it), and it's a lovely accompaniment to the crackers. It was quite easy to make and very tasty. The only drawback would be the number of unusual ingredients. I live in a large city, so access to raw nuts and seeds, miso paste, and other esoteric ingredients isn't a challenge for me. But I can see it being an issue for someone in a less diverse location ... though I suppose there's always Amazon if you can't find it locally.

Very down to earth cookbook, which is helpful when you lead busy lives
Just received my book & have gone through all the recipes & I'm glad to say they all look very doable. I live in the UK in London & can see that all the ingredients are accessible & easily sourced. I've taken off 1 star only because all the food recipes are designed for 4 people & I live alone, so will have to try to adjust accordingly. Love the intro part of the book as it gives tips in layman terms on how to eat a healthy balanced diet, without too much effort. I own many cookbooks & usually end up not really using them. However, with this book I just can't wait to get stuck in. I might be a bit biased though as I am a great fan of Mark Hyman & often watch his podcasts, which are very informative about health from a functional medicine point of view. Well, I shall be trying some of the recipes within the next few days & will give an updated review.

FOR those who WANT BETTER HEALTH and LIFE!
As a food lover, i have always been open to try new foods. I've always wanted to know what categories and foods are best to eat for good health. There is just so much info out there. After listening to some of the recorded radio shows on The Doctor's Farmacy podcast, i was gobsmacked to learn how sinister the food industry and big food corporations are using sugar and grains and corrupting scientific studies and promoting their products to get our hard earned money. Dr. Mark Hyman, M.D. the functional health doctor peels back the layers of the onion and his motto of "food is healing" over all cultures is what has led me to buying this book. This book has low GI (glycemic index) recipes that you cook from scratch. It is for Pegans, Vegans, Paleo, Gluten-free and Dairy-free and contains recipes from different cultures. What's very important is that it tells to how to store your ingredients and spices in regards to their form and what quantities (and even shows you how asians buy butter in bulk when its on offer from the supermarket and turn it into ghee by sieving the lassi out for longer life and cost effectiveness). I recommend this book to anyone that is serious about their quality of life, their diet, health, and longevity.

Recipes too complicated, not very appealing and don't seem to match the philosophy of the author.
I was inspired to completely change my diet by this author. However, the recipes here don't seem to match the philosophy. Today I made the lamb skewers with roasted carrots. The combination of flavours was odd and the recipe required too many ingredients, even though it was essentially just lamb and carrots. If I make this again, I will omit the tahini sauce and add a broader range of roasted vegetables. I was surprised by the lack of vegetables in this dish. I'm really struggling to find other recipes which appeal to me. I much prefer Dr Rupy Aujla's recipe book, 'The Doctors Kitchen' as the ingredients are much more accessible and the recipes more appealing.

Odd ingredients
I am a big fan of Dr Hyman and I m already following his eat clean protocol. However , I found this book really difficult to follow. The book itself is beautiful , with good quality pictures and lots of recipes . However , despite eating v clean already, a lot of the ingredients in his book are unheard of ,or very difficult to get, at least in UK. So didn t find it very useful.
