giant fun! my son loved it
I had seen this movie over a decade ago, and wanted to see it again, but couldn't find a DVD anywhere. My son watched it with me, and he enjoyed it more than I expected him to, considering this is not a new anime at all.Huge slapstick moments, and fast, exciting action made for a great evening for this father and son.

Do Not Buy This.
Funimation has a four movie pack coming out on February 8th 2011. It contains this movie and three others for only 25 dollars on Amazon. Don't get owned like me and buy the stand alone movie when for only 12 dollars more you can have all four. Thanks alot Funimation!

Buy It!
This is a must add to your DragonBall collection. it is the very first movie and pretty much sums up what happens at the beginning of DragonBall but with its own storyline.

Some Things To Keep In Mind
I've been a fan of Dragon Ball for a large portion of my life, and after a good number of years procrastinating on it, I finally picked up this DVD of Dragon Ball: Curse of the Blood Rubies. While a solid release of a solid movie overall, there are a few things to keep in mind here.PROS-Transfer made specifically for this release, looks great. Nice color reproduction, lacks the excessive noise reduction that has plagued Funimation's other Dragon Ball releases.-New English dub, rewritten to be closer to the original Japanese version. Lots of returning voices, with a few actors brought over from the Kai redub to better fit the Japanese versions of the characters (Monica Rial as Bulma instead of Tiffany Vollmer, for example). It's a great dub, and worth checking out.-Brand new Japanese-to-English translation by Clyde Mandelin for the Japanese audio track.-Full-frame 4:3 aspect ratio, whereas most releases (including the Japanese Dragon Box) matte the film to its theatrical 16:9 ratio. I prefer the full-frame presentation of the movie personally, so this is a big plus for me.CONS-Film source is from a reproduction master with some contrast degradation. Blacks can seem overly dark and crush some detail.-Japanese audio is *terrible* quality, sourced from optical film audio instead of the original dedicated audio reels. The opening theme, "Makafushigi Adventure", sounds like it's being played through a steel box.-Aside from some trailers for other Funimation releases, this is an extremely bare-bones disc. Not too awful for a $10 DVD, but it's worth mentioning regardless.I'm overall quite pleased with this release, considering its price, but I do think that it's worth noting these things and taking them into account before buying. If this sounds good for you, go for it.

Eh, it's an okay release.
The media could not be loaded. Length: 0:39 MinsThis film covers a story of an evil king who's desire was to eat something spectacularly tasty but that's something everyone pretty much knows. What I'd like to focus this on would be the picture quality and audio quality.PQ:+ The image is clean and remastered.+ They've used the "correct colours" which look nice in perspective.- Unfortunately FUNimation over-saturated the colours making it look dark and have detail loss.- Other than this release for an English Uncut Dragon Ball Movie #1 there's nothing else sadly.- No Japanese credits, but at the very least they made the film's title good looking in English.AQ:- The Japanese audio is very very muffled so be aware of it rather than be shocked by it.- The English dub has the voices of FUNimation's Kai cast unfortunately (would have preferred Stephany Nadolny).+ English dub is in 5.1 DD which is fantastic if you like the English Kai dub cast.So overall, while this release isn't perfect it's still perfectly serviceable.
