Does this use a regular 6 volt lantern battery?

Yes...............it does use a standard 6 volt. Super bright but the plastic housing will crack if dropped. Mine cracked but I was able to hold it together with gorilla tape...IT STILL WORKS FINE

Does this led lantern use a led driver to keep the light constant as the battery drains or does it just use resistors in series with the led?

How rugged is this lantern? I'd like someone to drop it from one (and/or two) meters onto concrete until it doesn't work. Then report.

With apologies, I'm unable to comply. As a resident of the United States, we don't *have* meters here from which to drop the flashlight, and imported meters are prohibitively expensive. Sorry that I could not be of further assistance.

does this lantern have a high and low mode

No, though I am still on my first battery after several months and it's not showing any sign of dimming. (Light usage, after dark while letting the dog out in a big backyard)
