Very Interesting Book
I have been to the Ancient Bristlecone Forest near Bishop, CA and was fascinated by these trees, their age, their "story," etc. I had never heard of them before I visited them in the White Mountains. We got to within 1 mile to the oldest ones (ie Methusaleh), but had to turn around because of snow conditions. Want to go back there this summer sometime and get to the final forest of trees.

Wonderful book!
The author has a strong research based book that also shows his love for all three species of Bristlecone Pines. The book contains far more information than I expected, along with humor and interesting facts. There are also a number of unresolved problems mentioned and hints for interesting additional observations.I bought this book in planning a photo-trip to White Mountain. The book has generated a number of ideas for photographs beyond the standard (and lovely) well known Bristlecone photographs. In short, I learned a lot, had fun in the process, and have a number of new ideas for possibly interesting photographs.

great history of this wonderful tree
a very well written book. hard to put down after starting to read. great history of this wonderful tree.I have started several bristle cone pines for my bonsai collection. i understand that these trees thestart of a 5000 year project, I have three that are about 20 years old and three that are 4 years oldsoon to be planted about 20 seeds. The 4 year old trees and the seeds are all because of Mr. Lannerand his book.

Quick and good!
This is a quick tree book without any fluff. It's the perfect primer if you're planning to visit the Great Basin bristlecone pines in Inyo National Forest. They're the oldest living non-clonal trees on earth.Bonus: one of the chapters reviews pine reproduction life cycle in fine style. It shows the author is a Ph.D. dude and knows his stuff.I will bring my book to California when I visit the Schulman Grove where the pines live, at 10,000 feet elevation.

Ancient wooden pillars
I bought this book due to my growing interest in this wonderful trees (I bought a few seeds on the internet and wanted to dig deeper into its characteristics to grow it up the best way). This book satisfied my needs and answered all the questions. I didn't pin 5 stars just because we aren't talking about a super-hyper exciting novel here: it's a botanical book after all, even though well written and explained.
