no wonder...
it's no wonder this stapler's so highly rated - as soon as i saw the box I recognized the style of the packaging because it's very similar to that of my Zojirushi rice cooker. these products are made in Japan, one of the few places where they still understand the meaning of the word "quality". joy! I bought this stapler for my home office without really thinking much about how infrequently I staple things at home. And, not surprisingly, I didn't use it. Wanted to, but had no opportunity! So now I've taken it in to work, where I staple a lot of paper every single day. I haven't yet gone all the way through my first cartridge of 5000 staples, but I've probably gone about halfway through, and this stapler is working flawlessly. I love it โ I look forward to every opportunity to staple things together โ and it hasn't screwed up once yet. One time I wound up with a mangled staple and thought I'd found the stapler's page limit, but no: I'd just placed my staple right smack on top of another one already in the stack. The machine's quiet and powerful and the flat-clinch staples are fantastic. There is zero risk of anyone poking a hole in themselves on a staple driven by this machine - the finished staple is as smooth on the back as it is on the front. I'm sorry to hear of a couple of people's bad experiences with this stapler; all I can figure is that either they're reviewing the wrong stapler by mistake or they somehow got refurbished or otherwise second-quality machines, because the rest of us are clearly liking ours a lot.

I'm Thoroughly Impressed
What a great stapler! It's very quiet and puts the staples through multiple pages without any problems. Had I known about flat clinch staplers I would have already purchased one. One look and anyone can see it's not the ordinary hand staplers. This one has to be the Bagatti of staplers. It's pricey but I know I'll be happy with it for a long time. For the price it would have been better if it had more than a twelve-month warranty, and the other problem is that if it's defective then the buyer must assume all shipping charges for repair, that stinks!

Years later and still worth every penny!
I purchased this stapler February 2016 and it is still going strong. I can honestly say that in 5 years I haven't had a single jam. I use it at work daily and it still runs as smooth as the day I took it out of the box. I almost didn't buy this one simply because the staples are so expensive but I just stock up when I find them on sale. If you burn through electric staplers like I did in the past, (a new one every year) get this stapler and you may never have to buy another one again! I love this thing.

Defective
After purchasing the electric stapler at this price, I inserted the required, separately purchased. The unit's button is green, but does not staple. I tried manual, automatic, manual, automatic, removed and re-inserted the Max 70FE cartridge. Again, nothing. Who wants to pay over $175 only to receive defective electric stapler? Working from home, I have many documents with several pages. The test document I used had only 15 pages. I will only increase the rating if I am provided the full refund requested.

Max Electornic Stapler
So far the machine has lived up to the ratings I read prior to purchasing. Our old machine worked well for many years (over 9 of them that I know of) but it finally gave out. Read reviews on same type but of course newer version and they were not favorable. The Max Electric, however, had really great reviews and so far not disappointed. I surprisingly is smaller and a lot quieter than our previous one but works just as well, so far. Time will tell of course; but so far it is working very well and doesn't scare the heck out of me when it staples. Love the quietness of its operation.

this one is more like a cross-stitch
This is definite the QUIETEST electronic stapler out there... which is why it's so expensive. While others "slam" the staple down, this one is more like a cross-stitch, it must gently push the stapler in and then fold it. The noise is more like a "whee-wurrr" than a "slam" noise. It's very nice for anyone working in the vicinity. Bottom line: VERY EXPENSIVE (so 4 stars) but worth it. Also, it's a bit annoying to get the paper centered properly, because the device is so wide, but you get used to it after a few staples. The bottom plate could benefit from a little arrow or guided info marker.

good solid reliable machine
this is made in Japan, not chineese junk like so many other staplers. it is worth the money. this is my second one, the previous one I had for over 10 years and I broke it while moving my office, but it stapled hundreds of thousands of sheets and never failed once. you don't have to refill this machine but once every few months, it holds 5 thousand staples! staples flat, and up to 70 sheets, works great!
