Warren and Jackie Greene pull off a live album of all covers that sounds authentic but fresh.
I was overjoyed to learn that Jackie Greene was part of this live album when I received it. While the songs are done in a very authentic way, there are enough unique moments that never could happen on a studio covers album. Not many bands other than Gov't Mule could pull something like this off. The people in the audience of these shows were very lucky. Get this while you can.

Contrary to what is described here, this item is NOT a CD!This is 12" vinyl LP.Looking forward to hearing it if I figure out how to play it and record it for the iPod. Otherwise seriously considering returning it. May keep as collector's item.Pay no attention to the 5 star rating as I have not heard the music.

Hot Rocks 2009
Phish isn't the only jamband to don a musical custom on Halloween. Indeed, Gov't Mule is building a reputation as a band that plays fun sets of classic songs. As with the " Dark Side of the Mule " album that played Pink Floyd and " Dub Side of the Mule " that featured reggae legend Toots Hibbert, this release offers hand picked nuggets from the golden era of the Rolling Stones. "Stoned Side of the Mule" plays music from the band's 2009 Halloween show. Volume 1 was released on vinyl in 2014. It kicks off with an 'Under My Thumb' that even includes the marimba part played by Brian Jones. The lead guitar work on 'Monkey Man' smokes. Known for his work with Radiohead, 'Heartbreaker' introduces the sax work of Steve Elson. Rolling Stone magazine considers 'Paint it Black' the band's sixth best song. Showing attention to detail, Mule faithfully recreates the sitar part. The band also does a great job on the tragically sentimental 'Angie.' As a live Mule favorite, the guys stretch out on 'Ventilator Blues.' "Exile on Main Street" lives again thanks in part to Jackie Greene's mean harmonica. Drummer Matt Abts takes lead vocals on 'Shattered.' The second record or volume 2 was first available on Record Store Day in 2015. The record begins with 'Wild Horses,' which is given dead-on execution. Elson's saxophone is amazing on the passionate 'Bitch.' By the time Mule plays 'Slave,' it is clear that the band is firing on all cylinders. To take a breather from the red hot action, the guys do a moving 'Play With Fire.' Yet another song off "Sticky Fingers," 'Can't You Hear Me Knocking' is a highlight. Things finish with 'Brown Sugar.' As on the "Dark Side of the Mule" album, Warren Haynes and company tend to play these songs straight-up. Lamentably, the guys don't improvise much or expand the original arrangements. That said, the band still puts their stamp on the music of the Stones. For the time, Warren Haynes wants this release to only be available in vinyl in an effort to support record stores and encourage people to rediscover vinyl. With that in mind, it's unlikely to be released as a CD or download any time soon. If you're both a fan of the Rolling Stones and Gov't Mule, "Stoned Side of the Mule" might be a reason to invest in a phonograph.

Great LP and collectors item
Came just as expected. It is 2 LP set as described under item description. Love me some Mule and the covers of The Rolling Stones sound very clear and well mixed in playback. I would not buy this item from Amazon but rather through another seller as you can save $20 at the least.

Stoned on this Mule record!
Great set of tunes, the band hitting on all cylinders. Ventilator Blues destroys...Excellent packaging, great gatefold album cover. The vinyl is 180 gm and feels substantial in your hands. The fact that this set covers the bases for both volumes 1 and 2 is great. A little pricey, but worth the money.

Only wish it were available in CD format.
I purchased this album thinking it was in CD format but was totally disappointed in that it was in vinyl. Although I do own a turntable with an expensive cartridge and stylus I still would prefer the convenience of a CD more. I am not set up to burn a CD from a vinyl album so I could not even play it in the car CD player from wich I do most of my listening to music. The vinyl set remains unopened and eventually I plan to sell it with hopes that it will finally be released as a CD.All that said; My favorite song on Mule's "Dub Side Of The Mule" is the Stone's song "Play With Fire". This "Stoned Side Of The Mule" does contain "Play With Fire" and several other fine Stones selections which have to be superb. I think my favorite Gov't Mule songs are cover versions of other compositions. Warren Haynes never ceases to amaze me with his interpretations thereof.

I love Gov't Mule
See the review above. Do not be fooled. I wish this album would be released as a CD. I love Gov't Mule. Also, as above, disregard the 5 star. Although I'm sure it probably is a 5 star item.

It is unfortunately just ok
This a Europe only vinyl offering. The vinyl pressing is good. It is an overview of the Rolling Stone repertoire, there are no real musical insights or anything especially intriguing. The music is faithful to the original. It is unfortunately just ok.

Don't miss this one.
As an old Stones fan, I think this double live LP is a gem, Warren Haynes is a brilliant guitarist and singer, and with the help of some excellent friends he gives the tracks a nice twist. Most of the tracks are true to the original Stones recordings but with a more modern sound.

Buone Versioni

Can't you hear them knocking.............
