Initially loved it, but it failed...
CAUTION: Read entire review before purchase.Initial Review: Great piece of gear. My Glock with a Surefire X200 fits securely. After a couple hours, the release mechanism becomes second nature; and after using the Safariland SLS, Blackhawk Serpa, and an HTC kydex retention holster for years, this Safariland ALS model has become my new favorite. I'd highly recommend a Safariland mid-ride drop adapter for those who want to use this with soft armor and plates. The mid-ride allows for a smooth draw and is still comfortable for me in a vehicle.New review (11SEP2017): This holster was a dream come true for a couple months. Unfortunately, it utterly failed when it was exposed to heavy rains. I'm writing this review from southwest Florida. Hurricane Irma just hit us yesterday, and it brought high winds and heavy rainfall. The holster initially worked fine, but after working outside for a few hours and getting soaked, this changed. After I came inside, I attempted to draw my Glock 17 to dry it off, and to my surprise the firearm was stuck. It took a lot of force to get it out. I dried off the Glock and holster as best I could and adjusted the tension screw. It didn't help, and I had an even more difficult time reholstering it. I switched to my old Serpa for the duration of the hurricane. A day later, the holster still takes an excessive amount of force to holster and unholster. It is non-mission capable. I'm grateful that I found this out now and not in a potentially life-threatening situation.Update (29SEP2017): I talked to Safariland customer service about the issue, and the representative said the company was aware of the problem. He said the problem was fixed in the 7-series holsters because they switched to a nylon material on the inside of the holster which doesn't expand when saturated. The model 7378 is the 7-series equivalent of this holster.

Springfield 10mm 5.25 XDM works!!!
I've been looking for a holster for my new Springfield 10mm 5.25 XDM, which has been difficult to find because the gun is a fairly new model and there are so few options it seems. I especially wanted a holster with a thumb release retention lock because I plan to use this for when I'm out working, hiking, camping in the woods. Around here there are bears, bobcats, and coyotes so I need a quick draw and I don't want the gun to slip out while I'm moving around!I found this holster finally and the gun fits very nice and secure in this holster, the retention system with thumb release is working perfectly. I can draw the weapon very fast with this system and it's just what I was looking for, hand ends up in a good position on the gun. There was a part of the material on the tip of the holster that rubbed on the sides of the barrel leaving a bit of kydex residue. I shaved that down with a knife and it doesn't cause any issues. The tip of the gun does stick out of the end of the holster. If I wanted to get crafty that is something I could figure out a way to fix perhaps. Overall I'm very happy with this holster!

Solid
Just arrived. Had trouble finding exactly what I wanted, which was a low profile OWB RH kydex holster for a g19/23 running a TLR-6 light laser combo, with retention. Decided on Safariland with ALS retention system, wanted the 7 series, but amazone was sold out, so went with the older 6 series -read a complaint about the sued lining in the 6 swelling when drenched by rain, but proceeded anyway, read this is not s problem with the nylon lining in the 7. Build quality seems really solid, same with the purchase on the waistline with or without a belt. Really like the ALS retention system and release mechanism and the authoritative click on holstering. Like that it comes with paddle and beltloop options and there are other versatility options available. Didn't need any adjustment for a snug fit, zero rattle. No one seems to make a rig for G19/23 running a TLR-6, this is molded for a much larger light, so its bulkier than it could be for me, thats ok. Really happy with the quality and the price. The only thing im not thrilled with is there is a lot of space around the trigger guard area, so much so, I can actually slip a finger in and get my finger onto the trigger while its locked in the holster. That surprised me, not something you cand do on a molded kydex holster.

The Best Overt Holster
The media could not be loaded. The Safariland ALS holsters are great. Rather than trying to jerk a pistol free of kydex, you naturally release the retention and smoothly draw your pistol. Check out the video review.

Top product!
Any way you cut it, the Safariland 6378 ALS paddle Holster is one of the best for any type of field use, open carry - or if you have to put on and take off your firearm quickly. It works beautifully with the compact Glock 19 (or Glock 23, for that matter), which is one of the most popular carry pistols around. The paddle is removable, and the holster also includes a belt loop with a set of screws, so you can use the holster for attachment onto a conventional belt, if you prefer that. The belt loop fits belts from 1.5" to 1.75" in width. I haven't tried it but it might be possible to mount the holster body to other mounting options offered separately by Safariland. The ALS - Automatic Locking System - is secure and extremely intuitive. With some dedicated training, it is possible to draw as fast as if no Level I Retention was there in the first place. If I would carry a pistol in an open top holster into the field, I would at least choose the ALS for improved weapon retention. An uninitiated individual would probably have trouble to snatch the pistol because the ALS Lever is pretty unobtrusive, hard to see and difficult to disengage - except for the carrier.I highly recommend this holster for the G19/23.

Great holster.
Where do I start with this holster? What a fantastic product. I use a similar Safariland model but with type 3 retention for a service pistol which takes a beating daily and has served me well. This mode is of the same quality but without the SLS hood and shield.I decided to go with the type 2 ALS only model for my M&P 2.0 and I’m glad I did. The SLS model doesn’t really have a significant impact on your draw speed, but does add quite a bit of bulk to the holster. This model is likely as fast as a OWB/IWB holster with no retention features, but adds the peace of mind of an ALS if things go south or if you need to get physical. The customizable-angle belt retention rig makes finding that comfortable angle easy and the optional paddle (which comes pre-installed) would be a great option for range or possibly plain clothes officers. While this holster might not have the concealability of some other holsters, I’m willing to trade guaranteed retention for a slightly lower-profile option. All of the components are of high quality material, right down to the screws. One thing I would have liked to see would have been multiple tiers of angle options to allow adjustment for height of carry.Nevertheless, great product.

Don't loose your sidearm in the field!
Bought this holster for a friend - a hunter who carries a S&W M&P9 "1st generation" full size model in cal. 9 mm Luger as a secondary gun in the field - to return a favor to him. The ALS system is extremely intuitive, quick and secure. When the pistol is put into the holster, the ALS (which stands for Automatic Locking System) goes "click" and eliminate any worries about loosing the pistol in the field. Don't laugh and push it aside as something that could never happen. I personally heard the sad story told by an older hunter who used a conventional leather belt holster to loose his revolver out in the field, which was a stainless steel S&W M66 Combat Magnum. It was dawn when it happened and the "shiny" finish of his revolver didn't help one bit to locate it in the dense brush. It was a embarrassing situation he found himself in having to inform the authorities about such a loss. Luckily for him, another hunter recovered this revolver a number of weeks later by pure coincidence and turned the gun in, so in the end all was all good when he got his gun back. He must have had quite a few sleepless nights, because loosing a loaded weapon, with the added risk that it might be found by someone of dubious character that has not the very best intentions, is something very disturbing. If he had used a Safariland ALS holster to begin with, he wouldn't have to go through all that! That said, my buddy is very happy with the 6378 ALS and commented favorably on this particular gift. One thing not often mentioned is that the 6378, which is officially the paddle version of this type of holster, also comes with a set that includes the 567BL belt loop that fits 1.5 and 1.75 Inch wide belts and a set of screws to replace the paddle, for those folks who prefer to attach the holster onto a belt. From what I've seen - and I bought more than one 6378 ALS - that useful extra belt loop is included to all 6378s as standard feature. If you prefer to have a belt-mounted holster and are tired of long waiting time, simply get yourself the 6378 ALS and just swap out the paddle against the belt loop setup included in the package. So, you have easily converted the 6378 ALS paddle holster to a 6377 ALS belt holster without having to buy anything extra. The 567BL belt loop allows for a radical FBI cant, a more moderate forward cant and a straight drop position of the holster on the belt - whatever the carrier prefers for ease of drawing or concealed cover garment. In fact, with other Safariland belt attachment accessories you can mount the pistol depending on preferance or mission. Of course, any of these items have to be bought in separately, but it illustrates how flexible this particular holster system can be.Last comment: This particular holster does fit both the first generation M&P9/40 full size as well as the newer M2.0 version without Problems. We have also tried a full size M&P9 M2.0 in it and it went in with a "click" when the ALS engaged on the ejection port, like it had with my buddy's older M&P9 first gen pistol. The Safariland #6377/6378 ALS type of holsters are highly recommended!

The only holster I'll be using from now on...
Had a Serpa holster for a little while and decided to upgrade to the Safariland for my M&P9 after trying out a friend's Safariland for his Glock 17. Overall, its a great holster and the thumb release makes it very smooth to draw with no issues at all. The retention is very positive and there's an audible click when you go to re-holster.We also tested retention when grabbed and pulled from different angles and it's very secure, unless you manage to push down the thumb release, its securely held in place. Tension is also adjustable which was very nice, as I discovered I prefer a slightly more snug fit than my friend with his Glock 17.The swede lining also helps with maintaining the finish of the gun, although it also tends to trap dirt and dust fairly easily so I'm quite sure how well it helps if you get it dirty outside of a clean range environment. Overall, its a great holster and I plan on sticking with Safariland holsters after my experience with mine.
