That's when I searched for a better way and found the MedReady pill dispenser and it has been a life saver! You can program it just like an alarm clock to dispense pills up to 4 times a day. It features an alarm that goes off when it's time to take the pills--the ring time of the alarm is adjustable from a few minutes to a couple of hours. I have my mothers set to ring as long as possible so if she's walking the dog or out to dinner late with a friend it will still be ringing when she gets home and she'll take them then. **BUT, it is important to know how often a person has to take their pills and how much time frame needs to be between those doses when deciding on how long to let it ring. The pill dispenser only moves to the next pills to be dispensed at the given alarm times. If a person took their pills late and then the alarm was set to go off within a short period of time--it is possible that they could double dose their pills. But chances are if the alarm isn't sounding they aren't going to look under the white door where the pills are-so when the next pill time came up the alarm would sound, the pill dispensing tray would move to the next dosage to be given. This would mean that they would miss a dose(which is much better than dbl dosing) and those pills that weren't taken would now be locked inside the dispenser and you would be able to see them when you came to refill it.Currently my mother only has to take pills twice a day -In the morning & in the evening so her pill dispenser will hold 2 weeks worth of pills(this will vary for you depending on how many times a day pills have to be dispensed).The individual pill compartment on the tray holds allot of pills (we do 14 morning pills of varying sizes) and the sides are sloped so it's easy to get the pills out. It has a large digital clock display on the front, and beneath it a white slide up door where the pills are underneath. To turn the alarm off you simply slide the white door all the way up which takes no effort at all to do. It should be plugged in at all times but has a battery backup if the power should go out.I bought an extra tray with plastic lid so I could just swap out the trays when it was time for a refill. I called their customer service # once and immediately got through to a real English speaking person who answered my questions.The only things I can think of that would improve this product would be if a person didn't take their meds after a certain period of time the tray would go BACK one so that the pill spot under the white door would be empty so there would be no chance of double dosing. And if you could set the alarms for certain days of the week as well rather than just times.It was easy for my mom to learn how to use it and she's done great with the past 3 months we've used it! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ provided a solution for forgetful Mom *by L***S on Reviewed in the United States on January 7, 2008* My mother was having trouble remembering whether or not she had taken her daily medications. This was the most reasonably-priced automated medication dispenser I could find, and it has worked flawlessly for about two months now. There are several features that are very useful. First, the flashing red light is a great supplement to the audible alarm for my mother, who is hard of hearing. I like that the MedReady is plugged in and only relies on batteries if there is a power outage. Also, because the key has to be in the locked position to take it out, there is no mistaking that the unit is properly locked after it is filled.The instructions for setting the unit up could be clearer, but I manged to get it right after a few trys. It also took a few days for my Mom to get used to taking her pills out of the unit, but now she has acclimated and is doing fine with it.
