Definitely worth it if you put in a little bit of time
It's a great truck. It really is. Mine came with a couple minor issues, but I can tell you Redcat's customer support is top notch. One issue was the pinion was jammed into the spur way too tight. Normally, I wouldn't take a point off for this, but you have to remove 26 screws to be able to adjust that. That's not a joke. You have to, basically, take apart the entire rear end. There's a top cover, but everything is so tucked away that you cant get to anything with just that. The other issue was the front diff was binding. It was making a horrible whirring noise on the first run and I noticed the motor was way too hot. So I took it apart to investigate. I took the front diff apart and it was shimmed incorrectly. All the shims were stacked on the gear side forcing the gears to mesh so tight it would barely move. Redcat promptly sent me a replacement, the entire drive box with the gears and the master gear that connects to the drive shaft. I don't think I've seen another review where anyone has had this problem, so you probably won't. Even if you do, Redcat is great so don't worry. Here's what you should know...Steering servo is a little weak, as is the case with every RTR I've ever purchased. Not a big deal. It's not horribly weak, just a tiny bit.The shock oil is way too heavy out of the box. Almost no movement dropping from 12", so I changed that to 30w and its made all the difference.Wheelbase is about an inch shorter than my ProSC 4x4 which makes it a bit squirrelly, but that's part of the fun. You have to pay attention. It's fast. Easily as fast as my ProSC and the battery seems to be pretty decent. Lasts about 20-25 minutes all out.The wheels, IMO, are appalling, but it is an RTR so I can't expect much. The tires...meh, I don't think they grip very well. They're pretty hard so I wouldn't expect them to.The bumpers are pretty much useless. They don't stick out enough to protect anything, which means your body is going to get beat up pretty quickly. The servo saver is garbage. It's too weak to return the wheels to center. That's not an issue with the servo, mind you. I changed the servo saver and the problem was solved. I used a Traxxas saver because I had one sent to me by mistake and it was laying around. Problem solved. All in all, even considering what was put in, this is a great truck. Now that it's running the way I want it to, I couldn't imagine why you'd want to spend more on something else. Keep in mind that I've been in this hobby for about 20 years so I'm a bit particular. Some of you might not even notice these issues. I got the same radio that came with my Gen 7 Pro and it works just as good as any. I got this on sale for $225. I spent $30 on wheels and tires from ebay/amazon. The servo saver was $6. Shock oil I had, but that's $4. I made my own bumpers from a sheet of 1/8" thick kydex. That was $8. Total $275 for a truck that flies and handles really well. See pics for changes.

Worth more than $200. Team Redcat with another win!
Amazed at how much bashing this thing can take. I've had Traxxas Bandit VXL, HPI Savage Flux, and several kit Ofna's and Team Losi vehicles. It's not a dedicated track truck but with the right mods and tuning this thing will definitely not disappoint. Before you first use it make sure to "Blue" locktite the shock screws, bumper screws, and drivetrain screws. Basically anything that's metal to metal contact. THEY WILL COME LOOSE!Also even if it's waterproof try not to submerge it in water and keep water out of the reciever. If you know you have a fully charged battery in both the transmitter and lipo and don't see a flashing light coming from the reciever "little box that has the antenna" then its dirty/filled with moisture. And will not give you any response except a blinking light from the ESC.Other than what I mentioned this is an awesome all around street/dirt/short grass basher. Also the moment I had issues with the receiver I called Red Cat Customer Support and they were more than happy to send me a new one in the mail in 2-3 Business days free. Says a lot about a company when they stand behind their own products.Paired well with Zeee 5200mAh 2S 50C batteries.(35-50min) on a full charge with hard driving.

Good truck for the cash
I just got this but so far it seems solid for the price. The esc fan crapped out on my first use but I wanted to upgrade to 12v to run 3s anyway and fans are cheap. People complain it isn’t 1:10 and maybe other trucks are bigger but it seems about right when placed next to my 1:10 drift car and it’s definitely bigger than the Holyton/DEERC 1:10 truggies on here. Slightly smaller than my 1:8 Arrma Typhon so I find it pretty appropriate in size. My only other complaint beside the fan dying is for a truck they claim can also be bashed you’d think they would’ve put a more substantial bumper up front that protects the body instead of sitting behind it. Time will tell how long it lasts. The receiver/esc area is easy to take apart for cleaning as it’s basically held in by a plastic bracket and body pin, but it keeps everything in line while driving. I also appreciate the wire holders on the body so your battery wires and other wiring aren’t flopping all around. For well under $300 a truck that can run 3s with a simple $12 fan upgrade is pretty sweet. Sure other trucks give better tires and other things that may be slightly better quality for your average person looking to have fun I don’t see how this isn’t a great deal.

and have bashed it pretty good. This is mainly because of my inexperience ...
First of all let qualify my review by saying that I have owned this truck for seven months, and have bashed it pretty good. This is mainly because of my inexperience with hobby grade rc's that require you to pay attention to the speed. In my opinion this truck is fast enough out of the box for some one just getting into the world of hobby trucks. Add a battery with a higher boost in more ma hours and your all set. Based on the reviews that I have read and my own experience with my truck this motor is a gem hidden in redcat racing's blackout series. I also like the fact that I could easily program the esc to my driving style. In seven months of speeding, crashing, and jumping, all I'm replacing is my two front axles (bent), and a screw that came out of the bottom end of one of my shocks and control arm. Happy to say that it didn't strip out the control arm but even if it did it would be an acceptable and inexspensive fix. Now I'm looking forward to bigger tires and modifying my body to accept those tires and making a kind of short course / monster that handles better and has more ground clearance for tackling more terrain. Overall as far as doing things that you like for a hobby this is the best 200$ I have ever spent. Red cat racing is on to something with parts availability price and power!!!

I dunno
When I opened the box, the car was not secured, it was just loose, as if someone had already opened it. I didn’t think too much of it , until I tried to drive it. The first time i applied throttle to test it, the throttle stuck on and the car shot across my kitchen crashing violently into my cabinets. It broke some suspension parts. I was then stuck with a broken car and didn’t even know if it could drive. I borrowed a receiver from one of my kids’ cars and voila, it works. I have since ordered replacement suspension parts and repaired the car, but geez louise. I also wanted to report the problem, but there seems to be no easy way to do this other than return it, ( but now I have even more money sunk into this vehicle). I wish there was a way to be compensated for the time and money I’ve put into repairing a faulty product.

Does not break.
This truck is a great basher. You can change out thé servi saver with the traxxas one the code is 3744. It will help stabilize it and you can gain more speed. I’ve bashed the truck and still nothing has happened to it 10/10 great price
