Cat took to this within a day - now slows down feeding very well
Our cat initially was confused by this, as he tried to retrieve the foot with his mouth.I am not sure it was us demonstrating to the cat that he can flick the food out, or whether he found that out himself, but he now successfully uses his paws to flick the food out from within the ridges and seems happy enough. Our cat was eating a full days dried food within 5 minutes - then complaining that he wanted food during the rest of the day. This bowl seems to slow his feeding down enough, that there is food left in the bowl during the day that he can come back to and fish out when he wants it - so less complaining, which is good.

Not for cats!
I never realised how large this dish actually is, it’s like a dinner plate, in fact possibly wider! It is extremely good quality and very well made and I think for a dog that has a long tongue it would be ideal. The description however said it was for small animals and there’s even a picture of a cat using it. However, both my 8 yr old cat and 5 month old kitten could not use it! They are both food fiends but gave up trying to use it! For starters the bowl has no grips underneath so skids around everywhere when they are trying to eat from it. Due to how large the dish is, as are the obstacles/patterns, it is impossible for a cat to get their nose or small tongue in to get the food out (unless you fill it to the brim which kind of defeats the point and could also lead to over feeding!). My 8 yr old cat managed to use her paws to flick a few of the crunchies out but otherwise was unable to eat the food directly.I think it’s a great quality item and definitely worth the money however it’s just marketed at the wrong animal group. If you have a dog, buy it! If you have a cat, avoid it!

Good bowl, consider cat size
My greedy little fur ball was eating so fast each morning she was making herself vomit. So we were looking for a bowl that would slow her down. This did indeed slow her down, unfortunately completely. She's very little being half British Shorthair and half Siamese and she was having to reach a paw in to drag the food out so she could eat it. For a bigger cat than our mini mistress this would be perfect. Bit hard to clean but absolutely the way to slow an animal eating... Unless they're too small of course

Persevere: it takes a while to get used to
Cat now loves this although deeply unhappy with it to begin with (i.e. the effort involved compared to just inhaling food from a conventional bowl). Keeps her busy for hours extracting the last crumb from the corners. It could do with something like rubber segs on the base to stop it being dragged all over the floor (never quite sure where I'm going to find it, I don't recommend walking round in bare feet without lights when your cat has one of these) and I don't think it works particularly well for wet food.

Highly recommended and worth the price.
I absolutely love this product. It is beautifully (and ethically) made and does exactly what it needs to do. I personally disagree with those who say it is too big as for me the whole purpose is for the cat to have the space to work at getting the food out. I have 2 fairly new rescue cats, one of which is a mega pig when it comes to food. I tried putting ping pong balls in his bowl which helped a little but he would still polish his food off within 5 mins. Now it takes him at least 20 minutes if not more. It only took him a couple of meals to get used to the feeder and now he loves it and thrives on the challenge. I try to time it that I am getting my own meals at the same time as this has helped to stop him from being under my feet all the time. Plus he no longer tries to steal his sister's food (she is a proper little lady and takes her time, and self regulates her intake so I still feed her in a bowl).I appreciate that this product may not suit every feline, but for my boy it is proving to be invaluable. It is also very satisfying watching him being stimulated in a more natural way. One little tip is that it does tend to move across the floor but I have pretty much solved this by popping it on the door mat.

Does what it says!
It's big!Very well made.Took a couple of days for my cat to realise - use it or go hungry :-)She hasn't vomited since using it and I think she rather enjoys it! She gets her face in some bits and uses her paw to extract them in other bits. I have moved it into my living room as it has a hard floor and she can approach from all sides. She tends to graze now and that is definitely better for her.A really worthwhile purchase.

Olly the Cat gives a Thumbs Down
Well made item, good idea in principle, but my greedy cat Olly hated it right from the start. Even just putting smallish amounts of food in it, the food soon dried out and the bowl became horrible. Olly now refuses to use it after just a few attempts, and this is the cat who is always, always hungry. It may be there are cats out there who are less fussy about their bowls, but this is one expensive bowl that will be stuck in our cupboard until we eventually give it to charity. Not recommended by Olly at all.

Not the easiest bowl to clean but does the job of slowing down feeding
The bowl is quite stable and is sturdy and it does slow down feeding and prevents the cats from gulping down dry food. However because the cats are mouthing the food out of the obstacles they can dribble a bit into the bowl so we need to clean it constantly and this is were we find it not so good as it is a bit awkward to clean.
