The Inside-Out Revolution

Nothing short of life changing. A miracle.
This book -- more like, what the book is talking about -- changed everything about my life. Everything. I wish I had known this sooner, but I'm so grateful I have this understanding now. It took me several reads (I also listened to the audio version) for it to sink in. As I've lived with this understanding, my life has transformed from one of effort and stress, to one of ease and joy. And I have literally done nothing to make that change occur. It has happened on its own. One major example is post-traumatic stress disorder. I suffered from symptoms of PTSD for 30 years, and within a month of reading this book and gaining this understanding even somewhat superficially, my symptoms disappeared.Michael Neill is a genius at expressing something that is relatively simple but can seem complex. His analogies and stories are incredibly helpful and insightful and put this understanding into concrete terms. In the year since I first read this book, I have shared it and the three principles with many people, and their lives have been similarly transformed -- not because of me, but because I simply tapped them on the shoulder and pointed in the direction that Michael Neill first showed me.This is not a self-help book. It's not a book of techniques. There really is nothing to learn or do. It's a book that will show you something you already know but could never articulate. But being able to see it, to articulate it, changes everything. I threw away every self-help book I owned, stopped reading articles and emails about "10 ways to be happy today" or whatever. I don't need them anymore, and I'll never need them again. My gratitude is immeasurable. Thank you, Michael, for this beautiful book.

Helpful, but not new
I purchased Inside Out as a Kindle book with audible narration, and I intend to listen to it often; the more it soaks in, the better. The author says right up front that this book is based primarily on the work of Sidney Banks who, because of this, I am going to look up. There is no doubt that the philosophy here is valuable. That it has been around for a while really does not matter, nor does the source that any individual encounters when it speaks to them - the important thing is that, generally speaking, people tend to find this advice when they need it and are ready to listen. Personally I feel that I have pretty much been living this philosophy for several years, basically since I found Max Ehrmann's Desiderata and decided to adopt it as my own personal creed. The reason I believe that it works is that I know I carried a lot of stress and anger around for decades but, largely without realizing it was happening, the lessons to be found in the Desiderata as well as this book and probably others worked their way into my consciousness and I have become not only a much calmer person but, at 75, people who have known me for years keep asking me what's my secret because, they say, I seem to keep getting younger. My answer is just that I am getting happier the older I get.

This book has been Godsend in saving me from heartache and pain.
I have read this book twice. First time I really enjoyed it as it made sense at an intellectual level. It made sense to me that our brain generates thoughts and feelings. And most of the time we are reacting to the feelings that our thoughts have generated. Of course we live in an inside out world. What's so revolutionary about it I wondered. But still I felt that author has done a good as the book was short and sweet with plenty of neat analogies and personal stories. I finished the book feeling smarter.Second time I read the book, my inner life was in turmoil. I was going through a rough patch in my personal relationship. I felt compelled to take action that I knew would make things much worse between me and my spouse. But I just didn't know how I could go on with my life without giving her a piece of my mind. I was dreading the outcome of the steps I was feeling compelled to take. But as I started reading this book for the second time, I felt a shift inside me. The shift I felt was gradual. It came and went. But I could feel that I was changing. My mindset was changing. Being alive just felt different. Not better. Nor worse. Just different. What I realized was that all the drama that I am fighting is MY OWN CREATION. Somehow, by thinking that I must give my spouse a piece of my mind I was giving life to that idea. The creative power of consciousness within me was actually creating my reality in a subtle but such a powerful way that I felt compelled to take action.I WAS REACTING TO THE THOUGHT I EMPOWERED WITH THE CONSCIOUSNESS WITHIN.The thought above made me feel lighter than I had felt in a long time. With that said, I feel that this book can make the same life changing difference to others. All that is needed a will to change and an open mind.

The best prescription I ever had.
This book was prescribed to me by my GP when I was struggling with how Fibromyalgia was controlling my life. After I had read it a second time I made a decision to change my thought processes, lifestyle and take back control of my body and mind. I am now drug free, not pain or symptom free, but I make sure I have earned them on my terms. When I wobble I re-read and it’s like having a paperback mentor.TBH I did think my GP was a bit of a quack at the time, now I know he’s a genius.

No Instant Life Changing Revelation Here
A mildly interesting book that takes too many pages to reveal that one's own intraverted thoughts, fears, self worth etc. can contribute to a depressive vicious circle. Looking outside oneself to an optimistic 'bigger picture'. can help to break out of the the vicious cirle and into a virtuous circle of well being. Good advice, but If knowing this and being able to achieve it is "The Only Thing You Need to Know to Change Your Life Forever", it is a marketing over simplification. Knowing this, and controlling one's emotional reaction to the rigours of daily life, inevitable 'knock backs' and sometimes tragic events, requires daily practise to achieve a resilient and lasting technique.

Changed My Life
This book transformed my life and my mental health. I would never have believed that something so simple would have such a profound effect. After years of therapy what this book points too showed me something that enabled me to see where my experience was coming from and I have not looked back. Even if you are sceptical please give this book a go. You may want to also get Somebody Should Have Told Us by Jack Pransky which is the other book that helped me. The Three Principles that they point to are life changing.

Amazing!
I received this 4 days ago and read it twice so far, in conjunction with another Amazon purchase, Loveability by Robert Holden, which is also on its second reading. This book is for the type of audience that feels overthinking, positive thinking, carefully controlling their reactions and making an effort to be determinately cheerful - while may have improved things in some areas certainly - isn't quite the whole story. It's for the people who have already realized: "I can't control anything apart from myself." This book takes you up a floor. (For those who read the book, you'll recognize immediately why I used that particular phrase). For some people, yes, this book WILL be too simplistic and might be a let-down.But for those who know there is a certain flow to life, there is a certain magic where things can happen effortlessly, without the need for over-thinking, trying to control the uncontrollable and always having a Plan B, then this book is amazing. Read it and re-read and re-read it. It's a very easy read. There are many "a-ha!" moments, and if you put it into practice, you'll see some very positive changes. I loved it. And furthermore, it's a fun read! You will gobble it up!

Says some sensible things succinctly
A pretty quick read, but packed full of reasonably sensible things to think about which will help you live a less frustrated and happier life.As the author acknowledges, every ten years or so someone comes along and says 'The present moment is a good thing' in just the right way for society to think that person's a genius.
