Simple and sweet.
Delightful small book that can be read in 1-3 sittings. I must admit my bias of being a rabid Giants fan and fondness of Bochy from years of watching his calm demeanor leading the Giants to 3 World Series Championships. So naturally, I was looking eagerly into getting to know Bochy a little more through his book. The book is a nice selection of short chapters of Bochy describing his passion for walking in different cities across the United States; often cities that the Giants travel to as part of their schedule. Bochy reflects nicely on some history of each area and points of interest, while also recounting funny stories involving players and dabbles in some philosophy. All of it sounding very much like it would sound if you were hearing him speak it. casual pacing, simple wording, and not a lot of fluff. Put simply, well, that's Bochy.I learned a bit about some areas in the states, laughed a bit a some of his stories, and overall was pleased with a man who seems dedicated to his wife (often his walking partner) and who enjoys being in the present. I liked Bochy before the book, I like him even more after the book. Thanks for a little share into your world Boch :D

I loved the idea of taking these walks and suggesting these ...
As a travel agent, I loved the idea of taking these walks and suggesting these walks to my clients whom I send to places like San Francisco and New York City. I wish he had one for Wash. DC!As an avid walker myself it made me want to put on my tennis shoes and take a walk. In fact, I did a 3-mile walk in Baton Rouge recently near my father's retirement complex. It was a block off the main drag and it took me to a beautiful residential area that was shady and full of unusual old houses...I felt like I discovered a new part of a city I've known and loved for over 60 years. I'm sure we all can discover our own home towns if we'd just walk a little. I loved it! It was too short...

Delightful conversation with Boch!
I read about SF Giants manager Bruce Bochy's new book on the SF Gate Giants app (which I highly recommend for the reviews of games and the latest news about the team) and bought the Kindle version immediately.Bochy describes a series of walks he likes to take in San Francisco along the waterfront and in cities where the Giants play, including Chicago, Cincinnati, and New York City. The voice sounds just like Bochy, folksy, down to earth, friendly. He shares bits and pieces of his outlook on life and philosophy and a little of his personal history as well. He often mentions his wife of 37 years, Kim, whom he describes as "power walker," and of course there are anecdotes about baseball and the Giants. For anyone interested in baseball, walking, and the colorful manager of the San Francisco Giants, this is a book to be savored.

Not what I expected.
I should not have begun this book right after reading a literature book, because I wanted so much more from this than Bochy's favorite walking trails to be found around San Francisco. With a title like "A Book of Walks," I thought Bochy would written about his baseball career, his family life, or something cheesy about how we all come from different walks of life. It could have been a book filled with vingettes about his experiences as a coach, father, son, etc. instead, "A Book of Walks" is a travel piece that tries to sell you Bochy's image of San Francisco and the walking paths you should take while you're there. It's a decent "book" for light reading, but do not go into it expecting it to be literature.

A fun read for all those who love to walk
A must read for all Giants fans! A fun read for all those who love to walk. The book is so reflective of the Giant's Skipper, just what you see is what you get. Bruce's thoughts and how he expresses them are consistent with how we see him interacting and leading the Giants. For anyone who loves to spend time exploring in San Francisco, his favorite walks and favorite places to eat, have a beer, or just watch the world go by are fun recommendations. My husband and I plan to follow two of his favorite walks and explore his haunts. The book is very insightful into the values and character of a very special man. I highly recommend the book. My husband is reading it now too.

Great baseball coach can do more than walk from the dugout to the mound.
A small but nice volume for fans of walking and the SF Giants. The Giants manager talks about how he began walking, the health benefits (briefly) and then details some of his favorite walks. Some are city walks and others are in recreational areas in California and around the US. I would like to walk more and this little book could go along on trips if I get the chance to travel or follow my team after I retire! The book shows the routes he takes. A military kid who moved around Bochy learned how to relate to others and that it's fun to also meet the type of people he meets along the way. Maybe a little pricey for the size, but to me the content and print & design are worth it.

No hits, no runs, a handful of walks, and plenty of errors
I love baseball, and admire all that Bruce Bochy has done for the game. I also love going on absurdly long walks, just like Bruce Bochy seems to do. So, I felt this book would be right up my basepath. Boy, was a wrong. "Boring" is the best word I can think of to describe this book. Bochy offers very little insight into the "walker's high" we experience on our treks. Rather, he simply bores us with lackluster details regarding his chosen routes.Midway through the book, the writing style changes abruptly (and for the worse), as if the editor simply gave up trying to make this book interesting, and simply transcribed Bochy's dictation word-for-word.One star for the conceptOne star for the delightful cover designZero stars for the writing

A Book of Walks on Foot - Not on the Base Path
Bruce Bochy is a master at managing the game of baseball and leading a team of men toward a common goal - winning championships (3 in 5 years). Getting to know a little of his personal side through his "book of walks" narrative has been great. I live 45 minutes from San Francisco and have gone there to attend many Giants games, but Candlestick and then AT&T Park was about as far into SF that I've ventured. Learning more about SF and the other cities the Giants played has been very cool and educational - makes me want to put on my sneakers and go for a walk!
