Quick Guide to Dominican Spanish (Spanish Vocabulary Quick Guides)

Dominican Spanish
The book is interesting and it has some words that were new to me since I learned Spanish in Panama and not the Dominican Republic. However now I am married to a Dominican girl who doesn't know any English so I will see how that goes. If you are going to live or spend time in the Dominican Republic I would recommend it. If you are trying to learn Spanish I would recommend buying a number of different books. I have a whole collection of them that I have accumulated over the years. I am quite fluent in Spanish and have lived in Panama for 18 years. I find that Dominican Spanish is the hardest to understand and I have been all over Latin America. By comparison Colombian Spanish is much easier to understand. So it is good to have a book or books on Dominican Spanish.

Not for me
I cannot believe that the Dominican spin on Spanish has so many sexually explicit words. It wasn't helpful to my sort of visit to the Dominican Republic, but if one wants to be apprised of the meaning of various words overheard on somewhat sordid streets, it would be helpful.

Useful book
Full of funny and useful idioms, you can use it everytime you travel to DR. It is as good as any book of this series ( Venezuela, Mexico, Colombia).

It is alphabetized by the Spanish words, so you have to know the Spanish word/phrase before looking it up. This is pretty awkward and unfortunate if you aren't already a great Spanish speaker.

I found this very useful as I found the little Spanish I knew pretty useless in the Dominican Republic . But it should have included the use of 'K' instead of que in most of the written language e.g. Kiere instead of quiere
