I had gotten this for him and also this astrolabe thingy that honestly I do not know that that is or didnt till he told me when he opened it one of the features on the astrolabe is a compass dial! They both are in perfect accord with my much more expensive (and much older) Boy Scouts of America SILVA map-reader's compass. They have a orientable degree ring. I honestly don't see how they could be more accurate; North is North, no matter how much money one spends finding it. I figure if they survived travelling thousands upon thousands of miles crammed in a big old container, stacked high on a huge ocean-liner, taking breakers, hurricanes, and tsunamis in stride, and then being tossed and slung around by the US postal service, then they should survive hanging on a saddle-string for many a long ride.
