Keeps the mind sharp and is perfect for a rainy day.
I enjoyed the Sherlock Holmes choose your own adventure style to solve the mysteries of book. See if you can make it to the end and solve the case. The images are crisp and I found using a magnifying glass is help solve the mysteries.

Not the greatest
This was the first escape book I tried. With the pandemic making in person play a problem, I played with my daughter, with each of us having our own copy and working together on Skype. Sadly, it fell a bit flat. The puzzles that used a code of stick figures from The Adventure of the Dancing Men were marred by making it virtually impossible to see the figures without a magnifier. Even then I ended up having to use the solution simply to locate the figures on the page of the last of those puzzles. We lost the game, but really could not even figure out why! We enjoyed it enough to try a different book from another series. Hopefully we will enjoy that more.

Faulty code wheel
I haven't finished the book yet but I am extremely annoyed at the cover. The code wheel broke after like two or three times turning it and now it won't stay on there. They do have an online version but that doesn't make it any less annoying.

So fun
I loved this!! The right amount of challenge and we could get solutions if we needed them. Very fun book.

Fair priced if you're into this type of puzzles
I loved that it was about the characters of Sherlock and Watson. I don’t know all the books about them and it’s useful at some point but I Googled them when I needed it so it’s not really necessary to know all their book titles. BUT The puzzles were not always easy or fun to do. Some involved a lot of thinking! There was one that involved maths (the one with the gauges where you have to substract and add numbers to reach a goal) and that’s really not my thing but then there were others where you have to spot items for example and at least you don’t have to have any special skills, just be observant. I did like the variety, where you fail one you can always have more luck with another puzzle, and I was happy that the solutions were simply listed in the back of the novel. I did have to turn to them regularly though, whether to check if I was correct or to know the solution. What I was most disappointed in was that even though I followed the novel, I ended up with a final entry way too soon. I think I missed half of the book’s puzzles and I have no clue how this could happen. Was it my fault? I tried to go back to see if I made a mistake but I think it’s easier to start from the beginning to follow the trail. I didn’t have the courage to do so now though, maybe I’ll try again later. I’m more into different kinds of puzzles to be honest.I recommend it if you’re more into such brain training but now I see we're not a perfect fit.

Great puzzling
Lots of puzzles in this book - some fairly straightforward, others really fiendish. Great format - like a choose your own adventure - and the code wheel is a real treat. I was addicted straight away - well written, a good range of puzzles and the right balance of story to puzzles. There are hints in the back to help you out if you get stuck, and always the option to turn back a few pages if you find you've made a mistake. Some tricky decoding, but all very logical. I love puzzles and escape rooms and would recommend this to like-minded people.

Unstable decoding disc
The decoding disc had come apart before I’d even finished “Baker Street” on the first page! Fixed as well as I could with a split-pin. Not ideal as it tended to move and made it difficult to line up the symbols, letters & numbers properly. The little men were also hard to see on the picture clues. It’s a shame because the actual puzzles and format of the book are really good.

Fun and entertaining
It's fun and entertaining, some very clever puzzles, but many are also quite easy and repetitive. Would have liked a bit more need to creative out-of-the-box thinking.

Do not buy this book!
Within a few days of using the book, the cardboard decoding disk inside the front cover had become detached, making it almost impossible to use.The puzzles themselves are simple, so if you like something challenging, don't buy this book, although I suppose that trying to position a detached disk over the appropriate holes in the front cover is challenging in itself!
