They use Lithium - Polymer (Li-Po) batteries in the standard size of 18650 and less commonly 26650. An 18650 battery typically outputs 3.7v and looks very much like a chunkier AA sized battery. My suggestion, and something I always do if I'm going to be using my head torch for more than an hour, is to carry a few spare 18650 batteries on your person. **Q: How long does it take to charge?** A: On arrival my torch had some charge. I use mine for night fishing, usually 4 or 5 hours. It always has charge and only takes about 2 or 3 hours to be fully charged. **Q: Can you take off the top strap?** A: Not tried but it helps to keep the lights in place. The lights are quite heavy. **Q: Does it work with flat top 18650?
