Commonwealth Basket Medium 3mm Chair Cane 270'/8' Binder Cane, Refill for Kit 200M

This was my first attempt at chair caning, and it worked out great! The kit has enough cane for one chair seat (plus a little extra in my case). At first glance, you might not think the binding cane is included. It's mixed in with the 3mm cane, so compare it carefully to find the long strip of cane that's a little wider than the rest. The caning pegs are a big help. If you need more of them, golf tees work although not as well as the pegs. The only other things I used were a 3/16 dowel for plugging every other hole (see YouTube video [...] ) and a caning needle purchased through Rockler.com. I just used the caning needle for "stage 4" on this video where the weaving is the tightest. It really saved some frustration. I wish I could post a pic here...it's pretty!

As this was my first cane project I wasn't sure what to expect. The package arrived on time and I used the internet to help me along. The contents were in pretty good shape and not to many burrs on the strands. The strands, in this case. were 3mm. They worked fine. I'll buy them again when needed for my next project.

I am just a beginner, I mean from square one. And the weaving strands I purchased were perfect for my repair on a couple wicker chairs I bought at a garage sale. Long, wide strands help repair the strands that were broken and falling apart. Excellent price and a lot of cane comes in the package.

I have been caning for over 20 yrs, usually order cane supplies from more supplier. I was sick of waiting for deliveries, pricey shipping charge and high priced caning supplies. I decided to try the 3mm cane just to see quality. It’s came very quickly, this is the only reason I’m giving it 3 stars. Poor quality, sad to say. Tons of breakage, will barely have enough for one small chair, very thin thickness , cane was twisted and almost impossible to wrap. I will only use it as spare cane and weed out the good pieces. I guess I will go back to spending double and waiting.

Cant use for re caining chair its not good enough quality. I would be afraid it would break.
