Great lesson to teach
I love the story, how the animals help the boy standup to the bully. Pictures show the bully in color. The audience can relate to the story and situation.

Davids and Goliath
“Leave me alone,” protests our sad little protagonist. “My problem is a giant So big he blocks the sun . . . .A giant full of nasty words, A giant huge and strong, Who casts a shadow over me As dark as it is long.”Kes Gray put this small sad rhyme into the mouth of the little boy before the current terrorist attacks cast their black shadow, but his message of despair still rings true. And, as many other fine picture books for children do, this story offers hope. Through the compassion, courage and initiative of the rabbit, the fly, the cow, the frog, the pig and others who inhabit his world, our young hero finds peace and safety. After sharing hundreds of stories with children over the years, I’m now more fully realizing why I like this genre. Simply and cleanly, these stories affirm truths we learned as children—that we need each other, that meanies can very quickly become cowards, and that even the smallest of us has important work to do.

A great message for all ages - share your worries so others can help
Fantastic. I used it with a class of year 5s during anti-bullying week as a writing, speaking and listening and PSHE text. The content produced so much discussion, prediction and empathy - the children loved it as did I. I didn't show the ending asi wanted them to make predictions instead.

I knew it would make a great addition to our teaching library
I am a homeschooling mom, my children are still young at 3 and 5. However I have been teaching the importance of respecting others, and helping those in need of help. They are aware that laughing and teasing others are not acceptable behaviors. This book really enforced those teachings, in a way that my little ones could understand. It is an endearing story about a very important topic. The book is big and the illustrations are simple yet eye catching. I first saw this story being read on book a boo on cbc kids. I knew it would make a great addition to our teaching library. My children love to yell "LEAVE HIM ALONE"!!!! when the animals all stick up for their friend. I highly recommend this book....I know it is not a book for everyone as some have said that it is not realistic as not all victims of bully's have friends to count on especially in school. However I think it is important to make children aware that there is always "someone" that they can talk to and ultimately help them......This book is full of good intentions.
