## Description

From the frozen lands beyond the Southern Wall, to the volcanic desert of Vralk and the weird, faroff realm of Corao, the Ninth World offers Numenera fans adventure hooks, new creatures, new character options, and the incredible level of detail, imagination, and weirdness they love about Numenera!

Review: A Book Worth Buying! - This book of 256 extremely well illustrated pages, is simply amazing and a source of inspiration for hundreds of stories and campaigns set to be played not only in the Numenera setting, but also other cypher system worlds such as The Strange or a homemade Sandbox game. I would say that whoever likes and got infatuated with the setting of the Ninth world, introduced in the Numenera Corebook, should simply buy this book and delve so much deeper in it. The authors put a lot of effort to create new lands of intrigue, mystery and marvel, and populate them with all sorts of interesting people, creatures, monsters and locales of interest. At the beginning, the book provides some new locations in the already known settings of the Steadfast and the Beyond, adding even more areas to explore and lore to delve into. The Frozen South follows suit. A land of permafrost covered tundra where the elements of cold can kill your without much effort. Yet, people have adapted and managed not only to survive, but build and populate large cities such as Arxil, Antre and the Invisible vale. Lostrei, is a land that if we were talking about classic fantasy, would be the equivalent of the elven kingdoms. People there, although, always at fight with the elements of nature and the dangers of the past eons, have achieved a higher level of understanding of the Numenera and use them to create and expand the marvelous capital of Aerathis, a metropolis of 100.000 souls filled with institutions of learning and understanding. A sharp contrast to Lostrei, is The Red Kingdom of Vralk. The Vralkans are the equivalent of the Klingons, if we were to use a Startrek analogy. They are people who understand and use the numenera, but not to improve the quality of their lives, but to forge their bodies and weapons to become the perfect instruments of war. They see around them naught but enemies and lands destined to be conquered under their iron boots. They believe in cruel and bloodthirsty deities which demand constant sacrifices of humans and humanoids to quench their need for blood. The Vralkan society, one at the verge of being masochistic, dreams of nothing but to climb the echelon in the “natural” pyramid of power, and to simply, conquer the world. Any traveler entering their lands, should never think himself of being safe or protected! The Rayskel Cays, is an archipelago comprised of large land masses and thousands of smaller islands, mimicking the tropical paradises of the earth we happen to know today. But, that doesn’t mean that there are no mysteries to be discovered there. The isolations of each island has created a large variety of societies with their own traditions, beliefs and way of livings; among them, a race of water dwelling humanoids. Last but not least, The Lands of the Dawn, the only area located on the Northern hemisphere of the planet. A place large, almost as the Steadfast with a number of strange, distinguished and interesting kingdoms. Among them one populated and ruled by a three legged intelligent race of creatures who, see and view humans as edible game; the same way we humans view and use chickens and cows and such (a very INTERESTING concept, in my humble opinion). Naturally, the relations between the humans and the race -named: Uraeyl-, are anything but friendly. Finally, at the end of the book, there are some extra Character Options along with some additional Monsters (a mini Bestiary) to put in your campaigns. All in all, this book is FANTASTIC, if you want to delve deeper into the lore of the Ninth World, and also get a feeling of how the lives of those who dwell in it go day by day. P.S.: I provide 6 photos of the book, to give a better idea of the whole quality. The light-white areas are the result of the use of the flash on the glossy paper; not a misprint.
Review: Well written, good supplement - Cypher system and Numenera can be quite daunting at first no matter how "simple" they claim it to be. The mechanics are simple but the world itself is anything but. The World Guidebook helps a lot, especially if you are going to include character classes outside the base 3. If you are good at world building already then this will add some nice stuff, but if you are new to it I really recommend reading this thing.

If you're a fan of the Numenera RPG game, then this is a must have. It does a great job of fleshing out the crazy, insane, beautiful and exciting place known as the 9th world. Get it!
