As far as being able to directly swap it out without modifying the plumbing, you can if you’re replacing another Hayward pump. Take this claim with a grain of salt no matter what pump you buy. It’s very quiet, but not silent. None are. This is better than average, especially at low speeds. I have 1 1/2” piping. I recommend setting the max speed at 3100 and running well below that. This is an issue with physics, not the pump. There is a part that you can buy for it to allow you to control the pump without climbing behind the piping. It is NOT included. I could never find a definitive answer to that question. I will buy it. This pump will last for years and is worth repairing as needed. It’s worth the investment if you want to go to a variable speed pump. I don’t think you’ll find a better pump. You can buy the cheap knockoffs, but you’ll be lucky to get a year out of them.
