Cookwell & Company All Natural Cajun Two Step Gumbo Mix 34 Ounces

This gumbo is fantastic. Everyone that ate it loved it and wanted to know where I got it from. I will order this item again!!!!

We love gumbo - when I saw this I thought it would be great to have in the pantry for a quick meal! This was inedible - we even added other ingredients in an attempt to make it somewhat palatable but we could never get beyond the acrid taste. We finally fished out the two pounds of large boiled shrimp we had added and trashed the rest.

No clue where these negative reviews are coming from. I'm a native Texan and travel to Louisiana often. I know good gumbo. On a scale of 1 - 10, I'd give it an 8.5 or 9. Let's see . . . spend the entire day in the kitchen making roux, or spend 10 minutes cooking some shrimp and scallops and mixing it with this? I did add a little Cajon seasoning and S/P and served over rice. For $9 what have you got to lose? Give it a try.

This Gumbo base contains some off-taste that makes it completely inedible. We had four adults (all Gumbo lovers) taste it, and all thought the same. As a previous reviewer stated, it might be the bay leaves, but I suspect it's their "secret mix of seasonings" which is apparently code for "dump a jar of oregano in it." Just gross.Save your money, or wind up ordering delivery like we did!

I was in whole foods in Seattle Washington and saw this gumbo for sale. Being a Louisiana native, I know what good Gumbo tastes like. I am no fool, I knew if I purchased Gumbo in a jar it would not be nearly as good as homemade Gumbo. I was utterly shocked at how bad it actually was. It had such an overbearing taste (I think it was bay leaves or Okra) that it ruined the entire gumbo. I fed this to 2 others in my household and they had the same thoughts. I never waste food, and I even tried to reheat it and eat it the next day....it promptly went in the trash. I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings, but it was so bad that I had to look it up online and see if others had the same experience!

I love this mix. As close to homemade without spending time on a roux & simmering for hours. I just add chicken breast chunks, sausage & baby shrimp...simmer according to directions serve over steamed rice and voilà - a delicious dinner in less than 30 minutes.
