A 'beefier' tripod to the 190MF series, the 055MF3 provides professional photographers with a tripod that's still very light in weight, simple to use, strong, and extremely versatile to position. The 055MF3 supports up to 15 pounds, offers a minimum height of only 4.3 inches -- which is perfect for low-angle shooting, and can extend to over 5.5 feet when needed. Without compromising on stability or rigidity of the tripod, Manfrotto engineers reduced the weight of the 055MF3 by utilizing carbon fiber legs with quick action lever locks in magnesium and resin. In addition, they incorporated the patented design of the 3021PRO series top spider which offers four leg angle settings, and converts the center column into a lateral arm. The center column itself is of the latest generation of aluminum and resin materials. The low-angle adapter forms the top section of the center column and is easily detached by simply unscrewing the knob at the bottom of the column. This enables the head to be left mounted on the center column when switching between low-angle and normal shooting positions. The features of this tripod are outstanding. I often shoot very low to the ground for interesting perspectives, and the horizontal center column mount is awesome. The 3 leg positions are extrememly handy. I paired this tripod with the 322RC2 grip ballhead and could not be happier. I use this tripod for landscape, wildlife and still life work. When shooting wildlife, I mainly use a Sigma 50-500 on my 40D with grip and the tripod remains rock steady. As a lesser note, the carbon fiber looks great and isn't cold to the touch in winter like aluminum is. However, as someone that really likes to take very good care of their equipment, I wish that a couple of the legs had been padded anyways and with the head I chose, I am having problems finding a bag long enough to put it in without disassembly. I coupled it with the Bogen-Manfrotto 488RC2 Midi Ball Head with RC2 Rapid Connect System and WOW! Granted it may be a little pricey for the casual photographer but if you are an enthusiast like myself you get alot of bang for the buck.
