FOR BACKPACKING
I don't know how people use those rinky dink aluminum and titanium so-called trowels. Are they digging cat holes in somebody's flowerbed or field? Because for me they're useless. The ground is always hard packed and there's softball or larger sized rocks and roots everywhere. This thing is heavy, but it's tough and has an actual handle, so you can jab it into the ground, pry rocks loose, force it back and forth... It definitely gets the job done. Other than that, it's really well made. Has a solid weld, nice ergonomic handle and the edges of the trowel have sort of a chisel grind. Not chisel sharp, but sharp enough to slice through a lot of the smaller roots you're likely to encounter in the middle of the woods.

Reliable Digging Quality
Excellent ergonomics. This trowel is very comfortable in the hands. The steel is durable and takes an edge if you want to file it to make cutting through soil easier. The wood handle is smooth and not prone to splintering unlike some other cheap trowels. While wood can last a long time, it does help to keep it oiled to prevent future cracking. I've used it to pry rocks out of the ground too, sometimes up to 10 inches in diameter. This is a great reliable tool.

Just buy it!
It is the best tool in my garden tote! Heavy duty, sharp and so sturdy! I love it! I was a little bit hesitant to buy it after spending money every year or two on flimsy models that came loose or bent. It seemed like a splurge, but it wasn't! It is worth every penny and then some. Just get it, and you'll be set for many years to come. You can toss the cheap ones you bought before! This is a keeper!

Awesome tool for every gardening challenge!
This really is a superior quality item, and while the surface doesn't stay that smooth for long (as soon as you start using it, you can tell), it works perfectly to take revenge on all the evil, resilient weeds out there.

Great garden trowel
This is my second DeWit garden trowel, so obviously I’m a fan. I bought my first one at least six years ago because I do a lot of landscaping. I will use my old one at the gardens where I volunteer, just in case it gets lost. What I love about it is the blade is pointed and beveled, making it so much easier to dig deep-rooted plants out of the most compact ground. I also put a lot of force on the handle and it has not become loose, split, or worn, other than the finish wearing off after years of hard use. The little collar piece is the only thing that eventually came loose on the old one. Now, the head is forged steel so of course it will rust if you don’t take care to remove wet soil or you leave it outdoors in a moist environment. Rust is a user issue, in my opinion. Definitely recommended!

Well made
A great hand spade for the garden. Forged construction gives it strength, the contoured wood handle makes it comfortable to use. and the sharpened edges make it easy to dig with. So far I haven't seen a downside. I would recommend and would buy again -- but unless I lose it, I probably won't have to replace it. A definite five stars.

This thing is amazing
I wanted to go with a higher quality trowel for a project in my yard. Using this product I've dug a 10 inch trench over 45 feet long to install edging for some landscaping. I probably should have thought before trying to do this by hand...but too late for that. This product withstood some brutal rocks, buried 2x4s (thanks to a crap home installer), hard packed clay (wet and dry) and some pretty intense prying as I wedged out all this crap. It didn't phase it one bit to my dismay. No handle bending, no chipping of the edge despite striking every potential rock that exist. This is an excellent tool and I am glad to have it for future projects. A) I probably should have thought before doing this by hand

Partner wanted a trowel that wouldn't break and I did my research. This had good reviews and being Dutch himself, I realised my partner would recognise the name. He is impressed with the quality and sturdiness of this trowel. Highly recommend.
