GM LS-Series Engines: The Complete Swap Manual (Motorbooks Workshop)

Really good "Cliffs Notes" guide
This is a really good rundown of the basics of swapping an LS into your vehicle. What engines to look for if scouting salvage yards, transmission possibilities, fuel delivery, etc. As others have mentioned in reviews, it isn't going to be a 100% how-to guide, but that's understandable considering the possibilities for LS swap combinations. It's the best $14.99 I've spent for my LS project!

LS engine swap
I am working on a 55 chevy truck and was wondering whether to go with the newer style engine or stay with an older style 350.I think this book does a very good job of explaining what needs to be considered when you are thinking of doing this kind of swap. This book did a very good job of taking me from not knowing much about the new style of ls motors to being able to understand what I need to do to go with an ls engine if I choose to do so. I am still in the info gathering stage and this was a very good first step.

GM LS-Series Engine
This is by far the best book on the market for someone doing an LS Engine conversion. As a matter of fact my husband has just about everyone one the market because he is doing an LS376/480 crate motor into a 1987 Buick T-Type with a built 4L70E and Ford 9"rear. This book is printed on the best paper with HUNDREDS of full color shots. The book was written by Author Joseph Potak and believe me he has to be the best out there. He is an impartial Author because he lists ALL the vendors that sell LS Engine parts. Believe me this book is a MUST HAVE for your library. To top it off Amazon has the best price. List price is $24.95 and thru AMAZON.COM I paid $16.49 with free shipping because I had ordered more than $25.00 in items that had qualified for free shipping. How can you beat that price? Don't even hesitate on getting this book. Author Joe Potak and Amazon.com are the BEST. My husband reads this every time he goes into his "Library". I believe that the Author is a member of the LS1Tech.com forums. If any LS1Tech.com members are reading this, get this book, you won't be sorry.GM LS-Series Engines: The Complete Swap Manual (Motorbooks Workshop)

Complete Swap Manual?
This is my only complaint, the Title. The book is as complete as a general information type could be, a truly 'complete swap manual would have to be specific to one vehicle and one engine. this one gives excellent general info about the many different LS type GM motors and is perfect for getting started. Recommended as a first read prior to planning an engine replacement project, lots of great advice on which engine suits the readers needs and vehicle. Lots of suggestions as to getting more specifics as the project moves ahead. Lots of info regarding transmission issues too!

This has been a great comprehensive manual for an LS swap into my 73 Monte Carlo. This has been the single best source for information that I have come across yet. Makes it easy and interesting to learn about the differences in the LS platform motors and how to make power on a budget. Lots of interchangeability information and parts sources listed. Worth its' weight in gold!

General, not detailed information.
I read this cover to cover and while is does a good job of breaking down the specific generations and differences between the gen III and gen IV it isn't very detailed as far as actual installation. I would have liked more information on manual transmissions such as clutches and the different shifter locations between models, It barely touches on the T56. I also would have liked more info on what can be eliminated in a non emissions controlled vehicle and info about cruise control etc. Great for a general book but in my opinion doesn't really get down to the nuts and bolts of swapping.
