Authentic Blast from the Past.
I am a vintage Mic entusiast, but not any old mic would strike my fancy. As a proffesional musician, through all this years I got to hold with my own hands a real vintage RCA 44 mic only twice. later I bought my self a few of the new "remakes". A series II of this, and a series II of the other... nothing ever gave me the feeling of holding an authentic ribbon mic from that beautiful era in music, as to when I got this mic out of its case. It is exactly what it was meant to be. robust, large, heavy and with its cable ATTACHED. This is what a mic from that period is supposed to be like. the fact that this mic has its cable permantely attached is not going to keep me from achiving great recordings.I am completely satisfied with this microphone. the day I recieved it I only made sure that it was in perfect working conditions, and it looked like some sort of "king of rock and roll" when I put it on its stand in the middle of my music room. I am sure it will be thetopic for a long conversation during my next recording session. the other owsome fact is, that vintage mics are still being manufactured in an era in which everything is being made small, out of plastic or some kind of fibre, and with a limited life span.just by holding this microphone you can tell it was made to last.the output signal is very good. I wont need to purchase a preamp at all.

Poor quality for Recording
Sounds like the mic is under water. I will need to modify this to get it to sound better !

I don't like the mic cord
I just got the mic and have had little time to test it, but right off the bat I'd have to say that the mic cord being permanantly attached to the mic sucks big time. If the cord goes bad, what the hell am I supposed to do, this is a stupid thing from the engineers who put this together. Second the volume output is very very low so now I'm going to have to get preamp to bring up the level. I will report back after this, but if I were you I'd think twice about buying a mic with a radio shack cord hooked to it. sucks sucks sucks

... all ribbon mics) microphone so you will need a good pre-amp with it
This is a very low gain (as are all ribbon mics) microphone so you will need a good pre-amp with it. Make sure the 48v is off or you will burn up the mic. If I had it to do over I would have saved a bit more for a higher end mic.

Beautiful look and finish
Apex 210 B reviewPurchased via Full Compass on AmazonOut of the box first impression. Beautiful look and finish. We got the black one!Sounds like a classic ribbon mic, similiar to the RCA 77 DX.I cut several voice tracks with flat EQ and was impressed with the depth it gave my voice without sounding muddy, popping P's, and all that. This mic replaced a NADY RSM 2 that I regret selling, and frankly I think it is better.Typical mics I use are Shure SM 57's and AKG Perception 220's.Head and shoulders over the AKG mics, and the Apex has a fuller sound over the SM 57's, but that's to be expected.Selling the AKG now!Claude Rorabaughthe audioarchaeologist and a voice on the American Christian Radio NetworkWashougal, WA

better than its price indicates
This is an inexpensive Chinese ribbon mic. If you're looking for a great mic for guitar amps, this one's stellar. If it busts, you can get another one. It's cheap. it's not a high end mic. It does sound good for many things though: abundant low end, and kinda darkish at the top. Can take a lot of high shelf eq without the sound cutting your scalp off. Great for any source that can be harsh or toppy. Cool for percussion too. I find little reason not to get one or two at this price. Just to make sure let me repeat, it's NOT a high end mic. Once you realize that, it's an awesome bargain.

BUY IT!
it's a ribbon mic! it sounds like a ribbon mic!....it's heavy...it looks great...it cost 80 bucks! I love the damn thing! this Apex 210 is worth a lot more than it costs...it sounds great barefoot or with a Behrenger warming preamp it is as good as an RCA 44....and I used to use 44s and 77s and I know what I'm talking about....buy one and have fun...hope you can get as good a deal as I did...
